For the few of you that didn't reinstall the OS on your Dell NB, has Dell password-protected the standard Administrator account?

Is there any way around it and/or can that account be disabled?

Don't Dells come like most other brands? Where the customization and setup of the accounts is the first thing that kicks off when they are first powered up?

Yes, the first thing is to accept the EULA, then you type in a few data (name, company, initials, time and a password and the type of account). I created two accounts: admin and user with password I chose.

By default, the administrator account is not enabled in all Vista not just OEM versions. To enable it, there are different ways depending on the version of Vista.

There's also a hidden super-admin account in Vista

Hi & thx to all for the feedback!
Ok, I made a mistake in my OP; the Administrator acct is currently disabled.
However, it shows as pw-protected with 4 successful logins - the last login being the day that Dell shipped me the unit....

This led me to believe that anyone with some "default" Dell pw could log into my NB, etc. As it's disabled, I'm less concerned, however I'd just assume change the pw to something of my own chosing just to be sure, seeing as the Administrator profile can never be deleted.

But maybe Nizzy's right, maybe the pw is simply blank (although it surprises me that VISTA would allow such a pw now a days... :p

There is no password assigned to the administrator account. Do not ever think of removing the administrator account. There are things only the real administrator logon can do, not other users with administrator right. Indeed, I am not sure if you can delete that account either. Just enable it and assign your password to it. PC Magazine also suggested to change the description of the adminitrator account to make it less obvious.
