    Hey guys,

I can get a pretty good deal on a Dell v305 (have coupon). Need a printer for school coming up anyway. Can anyone give me a blessing? It seems as though this is the same model as the lexmark x3650 is that correct? Any good? I can't pull the trigger knowing that I am either picking up junk or poor print quality. Especially when toner is so incredibly overpriced.

    Help me pull the trigger!

I bought that one, it just hasn't arrived yet. I'd also appreciate info on it.

I am sort of bothered by the amount of negative reviews that a lot of lexmark reviews are getting. Also at the relatively high cost of ink (though a 3 pack of black for 50 bucks isn't bad I guess).

I don't need the thing to work at publishing quality, but it is something of a must that text does not look like crap. Also, it would be nice if the scanner feature was actually good. That could definitely come in handy.

    u want a good printer...

    monitor slickdeals.net

they have $25 b&w laser printer, starter toner good for 1000 pages, which makes it 2.5 cents per page... paper $3 for 500 pages, so its like $31 for 1000 pages....
    $30 All-in-one....

just dont think dell printers can beat HP or Epson..

    eg: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=354428&t=899744

i always refill my printer ink if i dont need it to last... (eg for rough drafts..)

The one Dell printer I had, the ink cost more than the printer itself. However, we have a Printer/Scanner/Copier and it seems to be working very well thus far. My personal printer is an HP Deskjet that I got for $50.

I agree. When I was looking for a solid AIO a couple years ago, I was amazed at how many Amazon.com users negatively rated Lexmark products, all of them - the aios, the inkjets, etc. I about gave up on lexmark until I bought a $120 one with mostly positive reviews. Ink is around $25 per cartridge, which is pretty normal nowadays I think. No problems yet, but we'll see what happens.

My advice to you: For $25 bucks, I would personally buy the thing. Six more bucks for a usb cable, that comes to $31. I couldn't find many reviews on the x3650, but the only one I found on amazon was a positive one. For 19 bucks, you can get a high-yield black cartridge and for 26 bucks, you can get a high yield color cartridge. That's a good price for an all-in-one. So, let's say the worst happens and it breaks. You're only out 25 bucks plus any ink you bought. Take my advice or leave it, but if I were you I'd buy it.

    Good luck.

ps: I once thought of bringing a printer to school with me, but I knew my roommate would always want to print from it and use up my ink, so I ended up just using the campus laser printer. Haha.

Hey there! You know I received a Lexmark A10 926 with my 1530 in 1/08....I have still yet to take it out of the box and use it! The only reason that I got it was, I received additional $$$ with my EPP purchase.

For me, I have a HP Printer that works just well for me, and I'm sure when this one finally breaks or wears out, etc...I will open up the Lexmark 926 that is sitting in my utility room ;) :)

You may want to to peruse other models as suggested, check price points and look at the specs very closely (ie price of new cartridges, how many pages it prints in color and b&w)...and balance all that out ;) :) The cartridge refills after purchasing them, sometimes end up costing more than the printer itself...which makes me do this: ROFL... ;) :) amazing!

Then, I'm sure you will know of the right choice... ;)

Hope that helps, & good luck!

    Cin ;) :)

Personally I'll never EVER buy a laser printer because of the health issues.

My only Dell printer was one I got in 2004 for free with a computer. I used it a few times over a year, and it was completely dead the last time I pulled it out of the box, so... I don't know. I guess I'll just stick with semi-decent HP InkJets forever.

    Hey guys,

WOW great responses! I knew that we had an intelligent and busy group here. That was a good website, and a lot of solid recommendations.

Now for the news, I did pull the trigger last night, but I decided to skip the Dell altogether and head over to Newegg. They had a Laserjet 1005p on sale for like 65 bucks. 700 page toner included. Picked up a USB cable for 3 bucks and bit the bullet and picked up a 1700 page fresh toner for a package deal price of like 50 bucks. That'll be something like 3 cents a page on ink.
    : )
I feel like I caved in (screw the budget), but I think that ultimately, I would rather have a printer that's cheap but good at ONE thing, than a printer that is a jack-of-all trades and master of none. I've owned a few Lexmarks (one in college also) and basically am sick and tired of buying cartridges every month or so and putting up with varying print quality. And what the hell is that noise they start making after a year or two? : )

Hopefully my first HP will show itself to be a decent one.

Interesting. The article doesn't exactly spell out the risks, and only suggests them, but it definitely makes for something probably worth looking in to. I did buy a 10 ft cable, so I guess otherwise I'll need to make sure that I put the thing far away from the computer.

Maybe someone should try to find some good info on the subject and start a new thread about that.
