Well, they're also warning that components declines are slowing into the second half of the year.

4% revenues increase is pretty meager. Hopefully next quarter will reflect what has been a relatively successful notebook launch, in terms of demand at least.

    Cheaper components like:

    Crap microphones
    Crap Dell wireless cards
    Crap Grainy screens
    Crap bleeding screens
    Crap Touch pads
    Crap sound cards that whine
    CS that's gotten crappier

Sounds like a winner to me :rolleye:

At the same time, Cheaper, better laptops...... To be honest, I'm willing to pay extra $100 for a non grainy screen, a headphone jack that doesn't whine, a bit better touchpad.... that's just me though.

Well in the case of a big company like Dell you gotta remember that meager 4% is the equivalent of hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars.

    Not surprising.

Buy mass bulk = Save money
Sell mass bulk at small profit = Profit
    Sell 4gb RAM for +$1200 = Profit

Absolute values in business means very little. It's all about relative growth and 4% is really quite low, above analyst expectations, but still, they have some catching up to do with the likes of HP to stop losing market share.

If only it were that simple.

Well, if they can keep up 4% per quarter per year that's more than 16% per year... seems like pretty good growth to me?

    4% is YoY, not sequential.

Of course that's not it, just providing a small glimpse of what's obvious.

    My LPL screen is gorgeous.
    My microphone works fine
My Dell wireless is actually pretty good. (If I didn't think it would be, I had multiple additional choices I could have selected)
    My screen has no grain
My screen has almost no backlight bleed. Comparable to my desktop Samsung (read: as good as it gets)
    My Synaptics touchpad is good
My headphone jack does output some sort of internal line noise (not a huge issue for me, but annoying none the less).'

    Vostro 1500
By far, the BEST value for a configurable T7300/nvidia 8600M GT/2GB RAM/etc/etc/etc laptop available ANYWHERE in the U.S.

cheap customers = cheap manufacturers.... look in the mirror before you point the finger =)

Get a Fujitsu or AlienWare or Apple...quality comes in a premium

As they say, you get what you pay for. Though there are those rare diamonds in the rough ;)

Luck of the draw. If the quality of their equipment was consistent, I wouldn't be having all these issues.

My screen is a AUO and it is unbearable to look at.
There is enough back light bleeding to have the brightness levels askew.
I don't have a synatics touchpad, it's a dell generic and it sucks.
the headphone noise is almost unbearable in my machine.
Friend has a Dell 1490 and it constantly drops the connection. He ended up ordering an intel one on ebay....

To be honest, I'm jealous of your machine. :)
