After going through two other inspiron 1520's my third is perfect! Absolutely no screen graininess whatsoever. I'm starting to think that dell has rectified the screen graininess. That is, the screen manufacturers did. This screen is a LG Phillips screen and it is gorgeous. When turned off and intentionally looking at the glare from an angle, the screen has no visible bumps or waviness to it like the previous grainy screens. I'm finally very happy with my Dell. So, those of you who are waiting, hopefully you too will get grain free screens. WXGA+ FYI.

Or maybe it's simply due to "The Third time is a charm" ;)?

Thanks for info , do you know which were the previous screens ?

Btw my experience with DELL older models ( 17 WXGA+ ) , the LGL was too dark and later developed vertical lines , it was replaced by a Samsung panel which is way better .

What screens are affected? I have a WSXGA+ SEC screen. Not really noticed anything but then again, don't know what I'm looking for.

    Yes. WSXGA+ = 1680 x 1050

Also, do you have to send your computer in to get the screen replaced. I've already put so much on my computer that I don't want it formatted.

I think they send you a replacement and then you ship back the bad in the same box. So you probably can just swap the harddrives so you don't have to redo anything..

As for Dell fixing the problem, I could have sworn I read a thread last night that someone received their laptop yesterday (8/27) and had a grainy screen...so what does that tell you? :(

The online csr told me they'll send me an empty box and I'll get it back in 5-8 days from the day I ship it out...

I just had an in-home replacement done yesterday on my Vostro 1500. I went from an AUO to...an AUO. :( There actually is one tiny improvement (the backlight bleed seems to be quite a bit less) but the screen is just as bad as before. I'll be calling again today and looking for a *guarantee* that the third screen will be good.

So here's my story. I got my first system and sent it in for repair. They replaced it with the wrong resolution (from WXGA+ to WXGA) the first was LG Phillips and that wasnt TOO bad but the computer had other problems to get repaired. Anyway, the fixed system was atrocious so I got a replacement. Touchpad was dead and screen was insanely grainy. It was AUO. After getting that one replaced, I received this one with LG Phillips screen that is flawless. Best of luck!
