    Honestly, why?

The new Dell Precision M2300 is, simply put, an underpowered ThinkPad T61p. Does Dell think we're stupid, or are they really that clueless? What's the point of releasing a new 14" laptop if it's not going to be competant against other companies' laptops that are already out?

Graphics card is FX360M is very disappointing HP and Lenovo both have the 570. Otherwise it looks run of the mill except you can add a SSD 32 gig drive if you want...big deal. No real eye turner here...I like the line "certified reliable." Kind of like "certifiably crazy?"

not everyone needs the power of the FX 570. but it would be nice to have it as an option. As it stands, DELL only offers the highend GPUs in their 17inch machines...

However DELL does offer better support and the build quality is on par with Lenovo.

You have to remember these laptops will still be lapped up by corporation. All the laptops at uni are Precisions.

unlike lenovo which is becoming more consumer orientated with the Thinkpad series, the lattitudes are still very business orientated.

I beg to differ -- with over 300 thinkpads at work -- I'd say the build quality is still quite a bit better than most of the Latitudes. The D630 being a notable exception. Support has been a nightmare from Dell, but there are just as many horror stories for Lenovo. Service is just subpar all around in my opinion. TO make a blanket statement that Dell has better service seems to be a bit extreme.

I wouldn't[build quality],I had an M65 for 16 months and it was still like new,the new 61 series with the plastic over the rollcage is a step back IMO,I do like the lenovo keyboards better though....support would vary from region to region for both you would think.

With regard to the M2300,the FX360m will do fine in its intended market, which is more MCAD than animated DCC of which most company's would use uber powerful desktops for anyway.
Sure it hasn't got the FX570m,but I bet it has better battery life and will run solidworks, solidedge, inventor etc just fine for a mobile inbetween, while having extended unplugged runtime.

We will see -- I hope so. Dell has been a nightmare for us, and our desktop deployment. Too many changes in the build line up of critical parts for model numbers that are supposedly identical; i.e. hard drives sourced from different manufacturers midway through the deployment schedule. I would guess I am the intended audience, and in terms of graphics card I would agree it will be fine, but would be nice to stay on par with the offerings made by both HP and Lenovo.
