Just checked on Dell's site and XPS M140 is no longer in the list, only the XPS M1710. It is not even in the "compare all notebooks" list. Although you can still find it with the search option. Do you think they will remove it permanently and sell just the 1405?

Some update - you will find it but as soon as you try to customize dell gives you the "unable to process your request" message. I guess they really plan to remove the XPS M140.

Dell is probably going to release another 14" XPS notebook to take its spot - they won't just leave the 14" notebook range open for the competition.

I really hope so. I was planning to buy M140 in the next few weeks and now it is gone. And I think they removed it so they can sell the e1405 faster. Who knows..

Seeing as how the E1405 is the successor, that's a good reason to remove it. :p

Really, the E1405 is just the updated version of the M140, sans the XPS label. And minus the XPS "experience", I suppose.

If you'd still prefer the M140, you can find it on the Dell Outlet site; provided you don't mind refurbs.

Well yah but like xAMDvsIntelx said i dont think they will leave just one notebook in the xps series. Maybe they will release 14" xps notebook with a good dedicated gaming card? Who knows :p

Oh and I prefered the M140 because the regular intel processor was good enough for my needs, and was around $200 cheaper total price compared to e1405. Moreover from the outlet , you cannot customize and most of the notebooks are refurbished.

Did you see Sunday's news bit about the leak of the upcoming XPS 1210? a 12.1" with dedicated card, supposed to arrive Mid-May? If anything, I'd say that will fill the "2nd XPS" gap.

While it's true that not being able to customize is a weakness of Outlet purchasing, I think that (if your timing is right) there are usually a good number of units with varying configurations, that finding one to meet (or come close enough) your needs is feasible. And with price as a concern, another benefit for browsing the Outlet (I think there's a $400 off on M140s right now).

As for the stigma of being "refurbished", that's a matter of opinion, I suppose. While your mileage may vary, there are several users here that have bought via Outlet, and I think many of them were more than satisfied with the results, myself included.

Well in fact they have $550 off of every refurbished notebook , but the prices are almost the same from what they were before the $550 off (2-3 weeks ago). Simply what they did is to increase the base price and add the discount. Basicly for the same price now you can get a dual core e1405 with same config as the refurbished M140, which is funny since the e1405 is dual core and it is brand new. I will be buying my notebook in around 3-4 weeks when I have enough cash , so hopefully there will be still some good deals with e1405 - I will probably go with it since it is much better compared to the M140 when price is the same (dual core , a little better GMA 950 and up to 9 hours of battery life)
