There was a tech who recently installed a new replacement LCD as the old one had a dead pixel on it. But now, when I go into device manager in Vista, it shows it as a generic PNP monitor. It says PNP09FF and doesn't allow me to see what kind of LCD they replaced it with. When I play movies, it doesn't seem very smooth and I'm guessing it's because of the generic driver? I even reformatted last night to see if this would be fixed.
Did the tech do something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Check the hardware ID too see what panel did he replace it with.
-
Make sure you have the correct drivers -
Did you get this fixed. I also recieved the same replacement. Is the better or same as the lg??
-
This is what I get under Hardware ID, MONITOR\Default_Monitor. I have been trying to cope with this horrible lcd that I got. My only problem come from the fact that the viewing angle is horrible, and when watching a movie, the only way to watch it is looking straight at it. I have my 1530 for a month now, I can't stand the screen at the same time I hate to replace it due to the inconvenience. Should I try to contact Dell for a replacement lcd?
-
Let me guess.. You also have backlightbleeding?
-
Hey Iintraxz, I think it the problem I got, I didn't know what backlight bleeding was until u told me. I google and it exactly my problem, it would be ok if it was small however it unviewable unless directly. I have 6 days until my 30 days 100% gauranteed thing expire. Would Dell allow lcd replacement for this problem?
-
I don´t know. I have a bad screen too and I´m contacting dell this week. I hope they replace yours.

Hey,
Let me put everything this way. I have a screen replacement too today. I asked the technician for a brand of the screen. It was something China brand like "chingcheng" or something, but it is definitely chinese. I refuse to have me screen changed because it is going to be just a waste of time. I have one of my client and she has Acer Aspire 5220 with LG screen. I can tell you guy that it was very bright and cripse. The screen quality is excellent!!. The laptop doesn't cost more than $1000 at BestBuy.
Just try to get LG screen if you can. I don't know why Dell uses such a crappy screen for XPS line. -
Before I returned my 1520, tech support tried to tell me that they have never used LG screens in their displays. I laughed and pointed them to this forum but they still refused to say that they did.

The black m1530 arrived a week later and as soon as I booted into the os I knew this one didn't have the crappy Samsung,it looked great, similar to the lg screen in my HP dv6000t. The interesting thing was that I didn't have to go to much effort to learn the manufacturer of this Panel, device instance id listed it as a CPT which is Chunghwa Picture Tubes,at this point,I didn't care that it wasn't an LG/Phillips since it looked just about as good.
When my replacement arrived ,exchange for the 1st white m1530,upon booting again I knew I had a great Panel, this time when I checked through device mgr,it was an LG,I lucked out.
The meaning of all this is why do the other manufacturers LCD's all show up except the Samsung that everyone seems to be having problems with

OK, I got an opposited problem with you. Most of the screen that I encounter if it is a brand name like Samsung, LG, AUO. I think you can see them on the hardware IDs such as SEC, LP, AUO. If it comes with the unknown brand like Chunghwa. My Vista will sho only "generic screen" or something like that. I have 2 Dell machines which are Inspiron E1505 and XPS M1530. I also have seen a lot of HP laptops at my work. I almost bet my money on the laptop that has LG screen that the pannel quality will be great. My E1505 has AUO screen, and the picture quality looks great too. When I compare side by side, I will take LG screen anyday.
Today, I have my hand on Acer laptop and it has LG screen. It looked very beautiful. I don't really know what up with Samsumg or other LCD manufatureres. I personally think LG has the best pannel when it comes to laptop. My XPS1530 screen is so bright, so I have to turn down the brightness like 30%, and it still look good in the bright room. -

The point I was attempting to make is that Dell is sitting on an inventory of substandard LCD Panels and is configuring the laptops so that the effected batch of screens are much more difficult to ID,hows that for a conspiracy theory?

Also, when i click on the device manager and select monitor. i get 2 separate monitor icons saying generic PNP monitors. i click on the one, and get the above mentioned monitor spec. I have some advice for anyone who just recieved their new dell laptop, and have any problems,INSIST on an exchange for another new one,why let some stranger come over to your home and manhandle your new laptop, believe me I know its an inconvenience, but you just spent alot of hard earned $ for that laptop, don't settle for anything less than a NEW one.
