So check this out. I order a Dell 1720 refurb with the following specs:

    Midnight Blue
    1.66ghz core2duo
    2gb ram
    8600m GT
    160gb HD0
    Webcam
    etc. etc.

    Cost:
    619.99USD + tax and shipping

It works fine...for like three days. Then suddenly, it won't turn on. When I CAN get it to turn on, it takes literally 50-60 times of pressing the power button (I counted one day for SnG and got to 73 before it fired up properly).

Performance was terrible at this point, even simple tasks seemed to elude it (though for some reason I could still play Oblivion on it JUST fine at high settings..yet IE and word made it struggle? wtf?).

So I send it back to the Dell outlet. I get it back a week and a half later, they claimed it was the LCD display that was "making it short." No problem, I'm happy to have it back since I got a solid deal on it.

Except no dice. It's still freaking out. It still won't turn on. Finally I get on the phone with customer service and after like five hours of being on hold / being hung up on / redialing them / being put on hold again / being hung up on again / etc., I finally go to dell chat. I ask immediately for the guy's supervisor.

Supervisor gets on the line, within 15 mins of chatting they said they'll have a replacement system sent to me, because I refuse to send it back to the depot again despite them asking..keep in mind it's now been a month and I still don't have the working comp I paid for a month ago.

I figure "Sweet, just hope they don't give me an inferior one."

    Oh no.

I get the same specs back, EXCEPT

    1.83ghz core2duo

    and BRAND NEW.

    How ya like that?

I wish I could give rep to that customer service manager, because she hooked it up...she replaced my 619.00 refurb with an over 1000.00 NEW computer, with a better processor, same graphics, same ram, everything.

Pretty cool huh? I really, really lucked out on this one.

Yes, thank you! It arrived a week ago yesterday. I've had absolutely no issues with it whatsoever. Quiet hard drive, no grainy screen, no dead pixels, easy to type on, cool enough to keep in lap for protracted periods of time, etc.
