I have an Inspiron E1705 (9400) laptop, and its video card has been replaced twice by Dell. The original one was a 7900 GS and worked fine for 3 years until its memory failed. Luckily I have a 4-yr warranty and Dell told me they would replace it with a 7800, since they did not have any 7900 in stock. I was okay with this, since it is not too much of a downgrade.
Well, 10 months later and this video card died in the exact same way. I was not surprised though, since it had been idling at 80-85 C, and Dell said they did not care until something actually failed. I have 50 days left on my warranty and just got the replacement video card. A Mobility Radeon X1400. What?!? This is a huge downgrade, and a completely different price point!
I have yet to call Dell back yet, but I can't believe they would try this without even telling me. I don't have high hopes and am thinking I may have to try contacting the BBB.
Let me know what you think, or if you have any tips on dealing with Dell's warranty service.

I would have never let them give me a weaker card. You should have gotten a 8800gts or something.

You should get like or better. If they don't have the exact same, you should get an upgrade. If none is available, ask for a system exchange and have them send you the specs before you agree to it.

The limited warranty is here (assuming US): Dell - Limited Warranties | Dell
All you really need to argue is that you are not getting what you paid for.
Dell replaces my video card with a worse one each time!
