Waiting for technician to change out the video card from my daughter`s 1420. Due here any minute, should I be worried? Is this a big job? Keeping my fingers crossed

    Thanks

Changing the 1420 GPU involves changing the entire motherboard. It is a relatively "big job". I don't think you shouldn't be worried, but I'm sure we've all heard horror stories about sloppy techs... it'll probably be fine, though.

It would be good to clear a table so that the tech has plenty of workspace; and if you're worried about cosmetic scratches during the course of his work, just place a thin blanket or cloth on the table surface.

Good advice, I spread out a sheet on the kitchen tabel. It was a big job but all went well. I was pretty impressed with the tech`s speed and proficiency. He brought a pad to protect the laptop surface. All worked fine when he was finished. I still have no complaints with Dell.

Good to hear. I haven't had Dell techs actually come to fix my stuff yet, because thankfully nothing's been that badly broken. Their phone tech support has been very helpful, though.
