Does Dell charge restocking fees if I return an unopened order ? I ordered on thursday, now I'm thinking on using discover card & the 50$ coupon.
    The order has been shipped..

Normally, Dell will charge you restocking fees unless you can prove that something is wrong with your order. If you don't want it, the best thing to do would be to not sign for it and reject delivery. The only probably with rejecting delivery is that it might delay you refund (since a RMA would not be issued).

I ordered it to my university address - which means that the shipping and recievable dept is going to sign for it, then they will give it to me.
In that case, once I get the package, can I still do a refuse, and return to sender - without opening the box of course ?
The price difference with the additional coupon is 65$ - wondering if its worth the hassle.

No, you wouldn't be able to. Once someone signs for it, it is considered deliver. You might contact your receiving department at your school and see if they will refuse to accept shipment.

Other than that, you'll have to call dell and see if you can talk them into taking it back without the restock fees. If you are doing this for $65, then I wouldn't do it. Think about it - you'll have to wait for it to be shipped back, a credit to be issued, then have to order it again. By then, the coupons/prices might not be as good as what they are now.

It sucks, but it's part of the dell game.

Yeah it does not seem worth it - I was only considering it as I bought the laptop with univ funds, and with the extra 50$ off I would have upgraded to a better HDD (I have a hard limit of 1800).
But probably not worth the hassle.
BTW I do have enough funds to buy two laptops at once - I wouldnt need for the refund before buying another one :)

LOL, well i honestly don't think it is worth it. Now if something happens to be wrong with the laptop then you get, then be my guest and try to get the 65 back. I just don't like suggesting to send your laptop back because of the way the dell game goes. Dell can be offering 750 off 999+ this week, and next week it might be 400 off 1500+. They are so unpredictable.
