Should I request a new LCD (maybe I can directly request a LG) or send the laptop back and get a new one? (will I get a new one or will it suffer the hands of a bad technician who is replacing the LCD?)
    I live in Canada.
I ordered a XPS 1530 on the 17th with a 1680x1050 screen. Exactly. I phoned two days later to change the colour and the hard drive. I got a new email that said my order # had changed and the old one was canceled.

My laptop shipped on the 23rd. I used online Dell Chat and requested my service tag (to check the LCD I would be getting) and the tracking number (as I had not gotten one). I got both fairly quickly.

I checked my service tag and it said Samsung. So oh well, I gotta go. I come back and google the model number for the LCD. Not many hits. So I check the service tag page again and see if RP636 really is a LCD. Well, it says SAMSUNG WXGA. WXGA is 1440x900, NOT 1680x1050, which is WSXGA!

So I will be getting a laptop that has a 1440x900 WXGA screen, not the 1680x1050 that I had ordered all along.

So should I request a LCD replacement or the whole unit replaced? And of course I'll ask for a deduction in price of some sort, as this is pissing me off the nth extent. Just knowing that your getting the wrong laptop after almost 2 weeks of waiting with little info is pretty bad...******* rep didn't put a WSXGA in my new order. ******* rep.

Double check as soon as you get it. If its wrong...

    1) If the rest of the laptop is in great shape, request an LCD replacement. If the replacement goes bad, you have great grounds for a return.
    2) If there is something 'shoddy' elsewhere, call Dell and tell them you're returning it because they screwed up.

So either way, I think you are covered.

And yes, for wrong specs and having to deal with it you should get some type of compensation. But check the screen resolution first, just in case.

    Well, whoops, WXGA is 1280x800...
Do you think I could ask for a LG? What type/how much compensation usually for this type of problem? I was hoping to have this laptop in my hands asap because of school. eheh....

I sent them a "request" thing through Dell customer service (under Missing, Damaged section). How long do they usually respond? I'm going to try to phone them later tomorrow. Hopefully they will expedite the replacement.

Well, I can tell you right now that Dell is unable to honor any requests for specific brands. Too bad, because Samsung screens would have been dropped by now if you could specify.

You shouldn't start squeaking about the problem until you know for sure it is a problem. Dell will just think you have buyer's remorse otherwise, and they'll see you tried to raise a fuss without knowing for sure.

I am going to put in my 2 cents on this. Dell has a tendency to send users refurbished displays. If that is the case run as fast as you can. I had the display on my inspiron replaced with one of the those refurbished ones and about 5 months later the inverter failed. Dells quality for refurbished parts is terrible. They test returned displays and as long as they are working they slap a refurb tag and ship out again. There is no other testing etc. In fact recently we picked up a dell certified refurbished inspiron in addition to the one we had. As soon as I got it I immediately checked everything. LCD has about 15 starting to die pixels and the dvd-rom was filthy inside. That tells you 2 things...Dells parts are terrible quality and them saying certified is a joke.

I'm believing you fcastro, has anybody else experienced the same issue? I've heard of other companies doing this, but I'm not expecting a company as big as Dell to be doing that...a new laptop deserves a new screen, the owner deserves a new screen as well.

I have gotton 2 screen and 2 laptops with wrong resolution... they refused to give me 50$ back for the diffrence and would rather to get the laptop back and re-order all over again than giving me 50$.. so I sent it back and never ordered again... if they got it wrong 4 times ,, why should I think they will get it it right the 5th!..

Well I got a email back, somewhat good news, except...

"Unfortunately I am unable to exchange the system for a different one as Dell have a 'like for like' policy on all their exchanges."

    but:

"At this time I would like to offer you a credit of $350.00 including taxes back to your method of payment as compensation for this."

So I keep the laptop with 1280x800 WXGA screen and get $350.

Should I return it, or stick with the WXGA, get $350 and order a LG XK309 from spare parts? I think taking the 350 and buying the screen from spare parts (its like 200 somewhat bucks right?) is the best.

I would really appreciate any input from you guys :)
