Look at what Dell sent me. After waiting almost 2 months from the time I originally placed my order, and after numerous problems with being charged the wrong price, or not including components I paid for or cancelling when they shouldn't have, this is what I get.
I received my m1330 on 9/7 and loved it as soon as I saw the red lid. I took it out and placed it on my desk and noticed that it had the wobble. But for some reason mine seemed extremely bad. Like I could probably fit 1/4 of a pack of printing paper under the left palmrest because it was that uneven. Then after further inspection, I realized that the base is actually twisted in a way. If you look at it at eye level, you will notice that the left palmrest's side is a little higher than the right side, so by laying your palm on that side the whole laptop tilts to the left, thus being very hard to use on a table because of having to find a way to balance it and type at the same time without it rocking. Luckily, I was able to request a replacemet the next day and it should be here by Friday. I swear there better not be anything wrong with the replacement. I mean, how do they not notice something like this before sending it out? Maybe because it still functions alright, I don't know.

Prepare to spend more time waiting and have them throwing money at you.

Not sure how the mobo and all the components are fine flexing like that. Hmph.

Maybe the assembly station had a warped table and the notebook sat flat on it... Now I wonder if I should wait 1+ month for something like that.

well i have problems with the screen. The backlight goes all the way down when I try to use it while plugged in and sometimes while on battery. Before I could just put it to sleep and then open it back up for the brightness to come back up but now I have found that I have to restart it. If not, I have to use it beside a light source because I can't see anything and have been having trouble finding the mouse arrow. Also I can't use the Fn + arrows to change the brightness cause I have been trying to find a way to lower the brightness. At 7/7 it's too bright to the point that I'm getting a headache which should be a good thing but I have no choice until the replacement comes

I think it is the amount of orders that came out. They are taking less time building it my thought is how the heck does that thing still work? That must not be good for the moterboard.

Something bad happened to that notebook, I've never seen anything like that. The hard drive is under that left corner. It would be pretty hard for it to go through assembly and someone not notice it.

Perhaps somebody during shipping messed it up and just shipped it so they wouldn't get in trouble?

Was the box damaged in anyway? Can something like that happen due to heat ? I don’t mean notebook overheating, from something like leaving the box out in the sun for too long or something….

Better still, call for a Refund, explain why (and sound all sad/furious/upset), and then keep being upset until they cut you a fat check and replace it.

A replacement was requested the next day and should be here by friday. I'll post an update on how the replacement looks, tho they told me i could not get any compensation since I was waiting on a $100 credit. I tried to explain to them that the credit was because the sales rep overcharged me by $100 by not giving me my full discount when I ordered. So that $100 wasn't given for compensation but because it wasn't inlcuded in my purchase price. They didn't believe me and still denied being able to give me any compensation.

Actually, it can. I talked with Dell a few days ago. XPS support told me some early M1330's had thermal problems and were overheating, causing the casing to warp. Dell also believes this to be the cause of wobbling in some notebooks. The memory door and panels on the bottom would actually pop out in certain areas too if the casing was warped. So it's possible the notebook just got too hot somehow?

That's very interesting. I doubt it is a post-delivery problem though. Since, thermal problems are common but they won't become so hot that the plastic or whatever would deform. In fact, I had an old Toshiba with a broken or clogged fan. It would get so hot that the laptop would just shut down. But, I have yet to see any noticeable deformities.

Have to remember the m1330 is very thin and has quite a light construction including aluminum. If there are internal stresses inside the laptop already trying to bend it then with heat and time I can believe it would do that.

Yeah, Dell should have given you at leat a 50% discount. My old Inspiron 8600was warped like that when i got it but not as much as yours. I still have it. Warped on the same side as yours. One of the pads still doesn't touch the desk. I should have replaced it when I bought it. I had no hardware issues with it though.
