    Dell sent me wrong processor

    Hey should I complain to dell. I sent in my E1505 with a T2300 and got a T2300E back. NOrmally I wouldn't complain, but seeing as I am a programmer I need that technology to help emulate different operating systems. Should I complain to them? (last time they said they did not have anymore T2300 what should I do?) Thanks in advance.

    you can try to complain to them, but i don't know if it will do any good. Several users (not on here but other sites) have had the same problem. I think we had a thread about this awhile back too.

    I honestly don't know what to tell you except to call Dell and see what they say.

    Is the T2300E better? Usually Dell does something like this if they do not have any of the previous models left. I remember my PC was trashed, but I was still under their warranty so I sent my computer in and they gave me all new parts and upgraded parts. They did not have the older parts to replace my computer. So it was a good thing :)

    The T2300E is the same as the T2300 apart from it does NOT support Virtualisation. Most users wont notice the difference as the software they use wont need it, however there are a few like compsavy who do need it.

    Havent Dell breached your consumer rights by not supplying you with what they said they would. Its not what you paid for!

    but dell has a clause in the fine print, that if they are out of a part and if it needs to be replaced, then they will try to find something similar and replace it.

    But, the T2300E though similiar doesn't offer the same features. What they should do is either replace with a processor that matches, or upgrade him to the next processor that does.

    You sent in your t2300 for repair(?) and got a t2300e back or ordered a t2300 and got the t2300e?

    As far as I could tell when I ordered mine the 6th of last month, the t2300 was out and they replaced it with the t2300e.

    I sent in my notebook with a t2300 for repair and got back a notebook with a t2300e. Now my computer comes back with more complications. I am not sure if it is my processor though. When I use Microsoft Virtual PC the computer now becomes slow and very sluggish. But before it was very fast.

    That doesn't seem right, I'd be on the phone for sure.

    I saw how some asked how you got yours so cheap but you never responded. Less than $600 w/taxes shipped was an awesome deal. I used a couple coupons and paid $712 plus state sales tax..

    When I first got my notebook it was a T2300, I am 100% positive because i checked it with CPU-Z and the bios. I bought it from dell outlet.

    Ah, that makes sense. Give them a call and see if they'll upgrade you to a T2400 or something assuming it has the same capabilities as the other. From all I've seen, Dell seems to have good customer service.

    Lastly, from what I've read the only difference is you'll have to reboot to switch OS's but it's a reason to complain if it's a problem..

    SouthernGirl, this is interesting. So if you order something, you won't neccesarily get what you pay for? (in this case, paid for 2300, got 2300E!)

    southern girl et al,
    dont you think that something as big as a minor change in proc features should be communicated in person to the customer? especially when they do it often? they seem to be fitting in lots of 2300Es in place of the ordered ones these days isnt it?

    The fine print should not mean downgrade. I understand why Dell did it -- most people won't need the Virtualization features. I think if he calls and complains and explains he ordered it because he needed that feature they'll most likely take care of him. It may take a few calls, though.

    I really don't want to discuss this since we've already had one thread locked to this issue about whether it is right or wrong.... especially if Dell don't notify you.

    Basically, it comes down to the T2300E is a new processor and replacing the T2300. The T2300 is no longer made, and as Jeffrey stated, the difference is pretty minor. Most users will not even realize the difference unless they are a computer guru. Even then, most users would not care, but there are the exceptions that really do need the T2300 like compu. If Intel stops making it, then Dell doesn't have any choice but to substitute it with the T2300E - yet it is misleading on their site since it said or still does that the T2300 is available.

    This just doesn't just apply to processors. If something happened and my LCD broke, but they didn't have any in stock at the time, Dell would have to replace it with a similar product. In my warranty, it says that all damage with either be repaired or replaced (accidental coverage).

    The best thing to do is to call them and see what they say. It might have been a mistake.They might have ran out of T2300...Who knows.
