Dell shipping dates...what the heck?

Are Dell shipping dates anywhere close to accurate? I know a lot of people on here say Dell tends to under-promise and over-deliver, but....

I ordered my Vostro on Sunday, with an expected shipping date of 9/6/07. I just got an email a few minutes ago saying it has shipped today, 8/9/07. Not that I am complaining or anything , but it's just odd that they would give me a date so far in advance, when it seems like there really was no delay at all from purchase to build.

 

you are probably getting a returned order/stock order, im not sure.
BUT that is extremely fast for Dell at this time of the year.

Well, I ordered the 1400 from the link on this site (expired yesterday), and left everything stock except for the wireless card. Could be possible that they had one sitting around I guess.

Also, doesn't Dell re-sell their returned systems on the outlet page? Or do they re-sell some of them as new systems? I just hope I don't get one that was returned due to the grainy screen....

 

I hope I get as lucky. Rep told me it'd take 12 days. ESD says about a month.

 

Business class machines usually ship pretty fast from my experience. I ordered a lattitude for my work last year, and it shipped within 4 days, shipping took another 3 days. I know people who have got their laptop within 7 days. usually in your hands in about 1.5 - 2 weeks is about right. But certainly sooner is no surpise.

Too bad M1330 currently does not do that.

 

i orederd a 1520 on the 4th. i didnt choose anything that would delay my ship date except for the sound card, which was a 1 day delay. my ship date...the 22nd!!!!!!!!

 

Well, I just hit my second delay. I'm on the phone right now to cancel; I'd just let it cancel itself automatically but my order was split in two (the accessories) and I want to make sure they both get cancelled. I'm disappointed, but I don't really need a new notebook at this time -- I suppose this waiting let buyers remorse set in.

 

I just checked the shipping info, and it is being shipped from Nashville TN via DHL.

Is this the normal carrier for the Vostro line? I thought Dell used only UPS.

If it comes from Nashville, does that indicate a returned order stock, as YLZ indicated?

 

Just checked my tracking number....DHL says it will be delivered tomorrow. That's only 5 days from order to delivery! Just hoping I get a nice screen....

ordered my 1420 on 8-3 shipped 8-8, and i recieved it on 8-10, original ship date was 8-22. So yes shipping dates can vary widely.
