Hey guys. New to the forums.

I just recently ordered a dell studio 17 with

    core i7 720
    900p screen
    4gb ram
    500hd
    4650 radeon

I placed the order 12/6/2009 but the estimated arrival time is 1/4/2010

    Is a month normal?

Normal for a new model. Keep in mind that sometimes it will be further delayed. by another month even, or it could get shipped early (by a week in my case).

I ordered a Studio 15 last month - it took about 10-12 days - at various times the web site indicated one month estimated arrival - they are just keeping your expectations low!

I ordered pretty much the same computer except with the Intel Duo T9600 (i7 wasn't available for my EPP purchase).

I ordered on 11/12/09 with an estimated shipping date of 12/4/09. I received a delay on that day for 12/23/09. So today I am 28 days and still waiting after my order. From what I read, Dell may be having more trouble with the i7 processor. Definitely keep your expectations low.

Hard to keep my expectations anywhere when they do stuff like this:

Delivery date, changed from 1/4/2010 to 12/15/09
Status on Order Status is "In production"
Status on "Dell Purchase ID" is "Shipped"

Confused about the discrepancy, I called.

The automated voice told me that the item was, and I quote, "Shipp ed December 26, 2009, The scheduled delivery date is December 15, 2009"

    What the flying hamburger sauce?

Has Dell finally invented Time Travel?

My question now is, will I have to wait til december 26th and automatically have had the laptop for 11 days? Since the Timeship has delivered it to me in the past? Or will the alternate future have already happened and Ill receive it on the 15th the first time around? Will I then be able to then drive to the dell headquarters and intercept the laptop on the 26th that is scheduled to ship to me in the past, to have a total of 2 laptops? WHERE IS SARAH CONNOR

11/23/09 - Placed order for Studio 1745 (Core 2 Duo)
11/25/09 - In Production, estimated ship 12/11, estimated delv 12/14 (next business day)
12/4/09 - Still in production, learned about the special phone number to call to check detailed status, and in Build mode
12/10/09 - Up until last night, the phone said production - build mode, and that estimated ship date was still 12/11.
12/11/09 - The phone is now saying in production - build mode, BUT, no further informaion for this order at this time....(WTH????!!!!). It no longer mentions the estimated ship date or delivery date....

Please Dell, don't do this to me. My HP died, and I've been without a laptop for 5 weeks now, and have been using my work laptop...an old Dell Latitude POS.

Haha or they bought a used Delorean from an eccentric guy with white hair to do their deliveries. Dell is so screwed up right now they've probably been assembling Macs without noticing. Or as you said they are just really smart. See time flows in one direction, but according to some physicists it could just as easily start flowing backwards. I guess Dell just estimates this will happen on 12/26/2009.

I have the same exact system, except with a different paint design, the P9600 processor, and 1x 500 GB drive. I also get the same message when I call via Preferred Member number. If you check your status via their web site, it will give you an estimated ship date. You're going to get a delay, the email should come any minute now. I bought mine on 11/12/09, est ship date 12/4. On 12/4 I got an email with a new est ship date of 12/22. I'm willing to bet your new date is 1/4/10 based from what I've read. Also, your computer is in the build stage, which it can sit in for months in the worst case scenarios. The next stage is the "boxing" stage with can take 2-4 days itself, so there's no way your computer will ship on time, sorry to tell you. I've learned all this while waiting for my Studio 17 going on 29 days now. You CAN cancel once they delay it today if you want, so keep that in mind. I already have an HP and a Lenovo designed in case they extend my Studio again... but I really wish they wouldn't.

If they delay by that much I'll probably cancel. I'm going on vacation to visit in-laws on the 23rd...until the 6th, and I will definitely need a good laptop to keep me busy (games, movies, etc...). Guess I'll have to go and buy one at a store or find a ready to ship model that I can get by sometime next week.

    Update!

They said that it wasn't shipped on the 26th, it was shipped on the 12th.

    Well, that's a little better...

I guess the horror stories about dell are true. Even if I do get it fast, calling their number is useless.

I don't know how yours was shipped so fast. Did you get yours with a custom design? I'm trying to figure out what is holding mine up. Pretty much it sounds like either the custom design, 1 GB Radeon, or Intel Duo 2 processor.

If I do get it Tuesday, then it'll be 9 says since I ordered. Which is insane.

Especially since I've read of people waiting since October to get their systems

I've just ordered a Studio 1747 i7-720 today and been given the EDD of 02/02/2010 which is ridiculous. I'm hoping it gets revised soon otherwise I think I maybe cancelling.

Very normal. Six weeks seems to be the estimated time now. The only difference with you is you were given that estimate right off the back, while many people who ordered late October to early December were given three week estimates only to be delayed another three weeks.

    whiskeyguy,

You were right. They delayed my order until Jan 6th, and I of course canceled right away. After hearing other's stories of multiple delays, I am not willing to risk waiting only for it to be delayed again. Classes start up again in Jan, and I cannot sit around and wait for Dell's "just not in time" method.

I'm typing this from my new Asus G72Gx from Best Buy. I had to settle for less HD memory, but in 4 hours of setting this thing up, I have long forgotten about my Dell Studio. The only thing I compromised was going from 1TB to 500 GB (easy to live with), but I gained so much. And most important...for $60 less (including tax).

    My New System:
    500GB HD
    Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53Ghz
    6 GB RAM
    1 GB
GeForce GTX 260M 1 GB discrete graphics

It's considered a gaming laptop...but I'm loving it already. No bloatware. Nice ASUS integrated apps. Fasssst. I should have done this 3 weeks ago instead of ordering Dell. Good luck to everyone that is still waiting. I know its tough.

Well congratulations. I have a little misguided animosity towards you but not much ;-). We don't have a Best Buy anywhere close, but if they delay my order again (ESD 12/22) I am driving the four hours to one and buying a system, or maybe trying my luck with HP or Lenovo. I just became so attached to this damn computer since it's my first new one in 8 years! Also the first one I've customized to exactly how I want. I guess time will tell.

My order was shipped with a tracking number.

    That's 6 days since I ordered.

    Guess I got lucky.

I ordered a 1745 on 10/23 with an estimated delivery date of 11/19. About a week before that, I received a delayed shipment notification, which pushed out delivery another week. The delivery date kept getting pushed out and I finally cancelled the order after it was delayed to 12/30. What a frustrating experience! And disappointing, because I can't find this laptop anywhere else other than Best Buy and the options are a bit different, plus they only have midnight blue!

Well I ordered a Studio 17 i7, 500gb, 4gb, 900p screen on the 12th Dec and was given an EDD of 4th Feb and it's just arrived today on the 22nd Dec which is an excellent delivery timeframe but the information on the EDD was a bit lacking.

Build quality seems to be quite a bit lower than the XPS 1645 I recently bought but it is a cheaper machine.
