I Just purchased a Inspiron 1525 and the machine is absolutly fantastic, this thing is fast and the screen is a beauty! But the speakers are horrid, infact i dont like em at all and think im going to return it for the one reason. My question is do any of you know if the use the same in the xps series? If so i i guess im outa luck and gonna go back to hp. The altec lansing speakers they have are awesome. thanks for any info guys.

dells consumers lines aren't exactly renowned for their speakers.......

i've hear lots of complaints from the studio crowd, xps crowd and the inspiron crowd.

What do people expect from laptop speakers? Full studio sound? I think not! Get a pair of external speakers if you care!

woo... i was just asking a question. i dont expect much from them at all and i already own a great set of external speakers. thankfully those didnt get stolen when my house got broken into those week.. and thats why i have a new notebook. i had an hp and it was great, the sound quality was far better then the dell i just purchased. you would think for to rival giants that they would both be equally matched in that departemnt. trust me those little altecs on the hp were great.

so i guess that answers my question, the xps series would be the same than??

maybe not quite the same.....but definitely inferior to the altec lansing's aboard your hp.

and don't take nizzys comments personally......we are all just a bit vehement about the complaints from literally hundreds of people who expect more from notebook speakers then is currently possible.

As Nizzy mentioned, I think many expect too much out of laptop speakers.. Having said that, I must accept that the M1530 laptop speaker is quiet good for a notebook like this. The sound coming out is great, albeit a bit tinny, but then... its still nice and clear.

well, notebook speakers only have problems with good bass. otherwise they are fine but i would go with external speakers if u need some real audio.

Had the speakers on my 1720 replaced as they squealed even at low volume- excruciating to listen to. The new ones weren't much better so I got some externals.

people do have a reason to complain though. Dell speakers are inferior (on the xps) to most competitors, and that is not acceptable when you are buying a "premium" machine. Laptop speakers CAN be good, there are ones with much better quality, its not just because they are laptop speakers

agreed.....but the xps line (and other dell lines as well) has lots going for it as well....which for some bring it at par and above its competitors

My XPS 1330's speakers are quite bad actually.

The previous "white bumper'd" 630m and 640m had rather good ones. I had the 630m previously and it had no problem filling up a small room wihout sounding like it would explode.

    >_> I've seen the Dell speakers on my notebook. Despite having such a large grille on the ouside, the speakers are only have about a 1 inch diameter andd were made of paper.
They could easily put in two speakers and have one bass and one treble and improve the quality of the materials.

The speakers on my vostro are **** poor and even though i don't expect top quality from laptop speakers (though my previous HP and Asus laptop speakers were excellent), I do expect to at least hear the bloody things but the volume on them is so low even with all volume controls maxed that it's hard to hear them and the ' buy external speakers' excuse is a crop of **** if you wanted the laptop for portability as the last thing you then need is to have loose speakers and extra PSU or battery draining if usb powered.

Actually I did get some bluetooth headphones, but they're only useful if i'm the only one wanting to watch a DVD on it. Maybe I should contact Dell as it isn't the quality of the speakers but the volume so maybe it's faulty as you should be able to at least hear things even if poor quality.
