I will be buying a new laptop in Sep. and I would like to know if there is a list of schools and there codes for the student discount.

I am going to Davenport University and I have looked at the Dell University website and do not see it listed. I was told to call 1-800-695-8133 by the chat help because "not all schools are listed". When I called, the person I talked to did not understand what I wanted to know and got frustrated with me and placed me on eternal hold... So after sitting here like an idiot for a half hour waiting for her to get back I decided to call Davenport ... They have no idea what the code is.

So here I am ... Maybe there is someone out there going to Davenport University in Michigan and knows the code or maybe there is a list of the codes somewhere...

Have you tried going to dell from your university website? I'm going to UMD and for your college it may be different but for my college I go to their website. Under current student I would click on academics then click on OIT (Office of Information and Technology) and on my college's OIT I found something that says "Discount Purchasing Programs" and my college has something called Academic Computers for Terps (ACT) and from there I can get discounts on Dell laptops. You would need to have your university login account's username and password
Or maybe your college doesn't have partnership with Dell so they won't give you a student discount. And btw, it's only 7% or at least mine is

I have been through our schools website. For a current student it is the Davenportal... There is only one "outlet" that is listed there that offer student discounts. When I called and they could not give me the "code" for dell ,I asked them are there any places that offer Davenport students discounts on computers that they know of. She gave me a list of about three places and out of those places one of them had something close to what I was looking for but was marked up so high initially , the discount made no difference.

The discount through Dell is most likely only 7% anyway. You will probably find a better deal through Dell Home or Small Business or the Outlet.

Does your school have any sort of program where you essentially rent the machine from them for a few years and eventually pay it off and you own it at the end of the time. Can be more expensive, but you won't have one large payment or charge to a credit card that you then have to worry about paying off. My school does that, but for me, it wasn't worth it. The computer cost more, they do/did offer walk-in tech support for the program though.

    just go to dell.com/epp

If you do not know your member ID, enter the store by choosing your segment from the dropdown below.

Choose Higher Education Faculity, Students and Staff

since you ARE @ a higher education student, this applies to you... choose your config, add to cart, and @ checkout, they'll ask you for your school name... put your school name and checkout

Thanks paper_wastage... But I found out that e.e. is right...

At dell.com/epp you only get the 7% off and just going through and buying it through the website the regular way is cheaper!

Oh well it was worth a shot... Thanks everyone for the help...

I bought my XPS 16 on 7/12 thru the discount page offered from Dell Home. I customized a similar system going thru the student discount. For the exact same setup, the discount page was cheaper than the student discount.

Just try customizing both places. Dell changes pricing like every week.

If you configure it via the web it can be more than just using a standard discount, but I would highly recommend giving their EPP team a telephone call instead, ideally with something in your basket configured without the EPP.

Why would you recommend I call them again? Is there a possibility they will give me the 7% on top of the already discounted price?

I recently ordered a 1545 from Dell home, and the 7% off was in ADDITION to the two other discounts (-$244 + free shipping + 7% off).

Then after accidentally ordering the wrong screen, I called Dell EPP and they upgraded the screen for free. :D

Usually your school needs to have an agreement with Dell. You can then order through the school (sometimes gives you a link to the Dell site), or through Dell's website directly. You could also try calling up Dell and asking. The worst they can say is 'no', and if you don't give a name (just ask about the school), they can't prevent you from trying another way.

Just an addition, The configurations in your school's specific "discount store" (if you enter the member ID/choose the school from the delluniversity.com site) can vary due to each school being able to select what shows up there, how long warranties are, etc. so it's a good idea to price check between the following "dell stores":

Your school's "store" (gotten from either Member ID or Dell University)

    The standard Dell Home store

The Small Business store (you can also get inspirons, studio/studio XPS and XPS systems through here as well)
