I'm reading that some people have crashes caused by GPU and that Dell
    released bios upgrade.
Does this upgrade fixes this problem and have you noticed it?

I'm probably buying dell this week.
    Dell studio 1555
    Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 2,10GHz (2MB cache)
    15.6" WXGA TFT 1366 x 768, Truelife
    4 GB DDR2 667MHz
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 512MB

I planning to install Win 7 but I don't kow how to upgrade bios and deal with such problems.

    Hi Mali_42,
I've had my ATI driver crashing pretty much whenever I try to play something on the computer, running the latest bios (A07) and catalyst driver (modded 9.10).
I kind of gave up regarding this issue...

Does it get hot when GPU is stressed?

I also read that track gets heated a lot.
It's nice laptop but now I don't know will I buy it.

Did you tried to install older driver?

I'm confused now. I need to type a lot. Shoud it be overheating a problem?

I actually have no idea, the crashes may be a heat problem, I never tried measuring the heat.
Luckily I don't have enough time to game on the laptop anyway :)
As for general heat, I guess it does heat up a little when stressing it, as does any notebook, but nothing that annoyed me.

There is now an A08 update for the BIOS on the Dell support site. Also, if the problem is heat, I have a Zalman ZM-NC2000 (click link for a forum thread about it) that I use for my 1555. It fits great and works like a champ; I recommend it.

    It couldn't be simpler.

Step 1: Go to Dell.com and click on Drivers and Downloads at the bottom. Enter your service tag if asked (it's on the bottom and is 7 alphanumeric characters, eg A1BWWK1).

Step 2: On the downloads page make sure the dropdown box for your OS is set to Windows 7 64bit (or your OS version if different). Download the BIOS update from the link list.

Step 3: Run the updater ( 1555_A08.exe ). It will take a couple minutes to complete and will automatically restart your computer.

    That's it, you're done!

Thanks, I thought you need to make flash cd :p
    I'm putting Win 7 x86.
Drivers for Win7 x86 are for Vista x86, right?

If you have Windows Vista 32-bit, then use Vista x86. If your Windows is 64-bit, use 64-bit/x64.

Don't use the Windows 7 driver for Vista or the Vista driver for Windows 7 (try to use the drivers that match your OS).

If you are not sure, click Start and right-click on Computer and select properties. It will say your OS and beside "System Type" it shows if you are using the 32 or 64 bit version.

Dell doesn't have on official site drivers for Win 7 x86, just for Vista 64 Vista 32 and Xp

This is regards to the A08 BIOS update. Has anyone experienced an issue with the eject button on the keyboard not working after this update is applied? When I reflash back to the A07 BIOS it works. I've done this a few times to confirm this issue. Btw my DVD drive is the TS T633a which also has the latest firmware installed. I've even reflashed the drive to confirm it wasn't the new firmware with the latest BIOS being an issue.

I am still able to eject a DVD using the keyboard eject button with the A08 update. I have the "DVKX3 DVD+/-RW..., 8X, Serial Ata, SLOT, Hitachi Lg Data Storage" drive according to my Dell System Information screen. It's the one that writes DVDs but only reads Bluray IIRC.

Do you happen to have the Dell QuickSet software installed? I've never installed this software in order for the multimedia buttons to work as all buttons work without this software before the update; however, upon install the QuickSet software the eject button does work. Just weird that it was working without it just fine with the A07 update. And like I said when reflashing back to A07 it works just fine without the QuickSet software. Just something that made me go...hmmm... :)

I wonder if uninstalling it (with a reboot of course) would result in a similar issue I'm having. Of all the Dell laptops I've worked on (I too am a tech) I've never installed the extra "junk" Dell provides and never relied on the QuickSet software for the multimedia keys to work. Also note, after some more troubleshooting that it does work fine in the BIOS and before Windows boots, but it strange that with the A07 BIOS it works fine in Windows without the QuickSet software. I'm running Win7 Pro 64bit btw.
