    Hi,

I am looking to buy a new laptop to replace my Compal FL90. I found the dell studio 17 and thought it is a very very good deal (i5 530, 5650, 320gb 7200rpm, 3yr inhome for 908euros).

Now i was wondering if it is really big/heavy to carry around? I am a student and do move a lot with my laptop. I'd love to work in front of a 17 inch screen if the added cost of weight/size when carrying around isn't too overwhelming.

What r ur experiences with this?

Does it have the 6 or 9 cell battery? The 9 cell battery sticks out and would make it harder to carry around and to put into a backpack.

I don't carry mine around so I can't give you an opinion on that. All I can say is that it is thinner and lighter than 17 inch laptops used to be. It is easier to move around than my husbands old 15 inch laptop.

FL90 ~ 6lbs, Studio 17 ~7lbs. I mean, if you're already used to carrying your FL90 around, I don't think lugging the Studio around should be all that bad. This is, of course, if the advertised weights are the real weights, but even if both units are heavier than claimed, the difference should still be about the same.

    It's no featherweight, but I wouldn't call 7lb "heavy".

The 1747 is definitely a smidge lighter and leaner than the 1737 even with the 9 cell.
