When do you think the Studio 17 it's going to be refreshed?
-
Sometime between now and next year.
-
Next year:O...That's not good,Studio 15 has already been refreshed.
-
The Studio 15 also sells more than the 17, and the Studio 15 refresh addresses an extremely common issue that is not present in the Studio 17, so it's not as urgent to release a Studio 17 refresh as it was for the Studio 15.
-
i hope so, there are areas studio 17 definitely needs improvements.
i would want a better sound system with a subwoofer like studio 16's; an nvidia gpu g series;a not so jumpy touchpad and a keyboard has no delay.
there are more: slim down the computer to 7lbs with battery from current 8lbs; higherclock cpu option to t9900; and cool lid colors( i dont like solids, especially pink); brighter backlit keyboard( like xps m1730's).
i think thats it for dell studio 17 series successor. -
On Dell's site when you want to configure a studio 17 it says ''Upgraded 512MB Discrete Graphics! 2 Years Service and Support!'' http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop_studio_17?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

It should get updated in the coming months. That's the time during which they get updated.
-
Media key annoying issue is also present in Studio 17 my friend....
For many times I have to pull out the battery (and power cord) and press the power button for few seconds to discharge it. -
What do you think should i do,wait for the refresh or buy now?
-
Best Price - wait a month and buy the original model at the closeout sale.
Best Tech - wait a few months and buy the new model at the intro sale. -
Didn't know that. Every complaint about that issue that I've ever read is from people with the Studio 15, not 17. Have Dell send you a replacement panel, you may get lucky.
-
How many other Studio 17 owners are reporting this issue? I'm not seeing this one either.
-
If I remeber correctly there are others who have mentioned the media key issue in this forum.
I've contacted Dell Japan (where I currently live & ordered my Studio 17) and they could only provide that draining residual power sollution. Also I don't think that this could be fixed by panel replacement if the design is still the same. -
Yes, wait for a few months.
-
Newer models may have slightly altered designs. On my 1535, I've gone through four hinge covers, all of which had the exact same issue within a day of installing them, and now I'm on my fifth...this one is newer than all the others. It looks identical, but it's been over three weeks since I installed it and the media buttons have not frozen once. *knock on wood*
-
Wow that's great... I hope they have done the same thing with Studio 17 hinge cover. Maybe it's time for me to contact them again. Thanks.

No news so far?

Yeah, I saw the 512MB 3650 over on the small business site a couple of weeks ago, but now the option is gone from both the home and small business stores! What gives?
I know there have been problems with the capacitive media keys on the Studio 15 and 17, but I'm unfamiliar with the specifics. Are there a variety of problems, or are most people affected by the same bug? Is there a fix for it? Thanks! -
99% of the issues occur only the Studio 15, the 17 seems oddly immune. The main issue seems to be that the eject button sometimes activates itself upon starting the laptop, and continues attempting to eject the drive for a few minutes. After it stops, all the buttons work normally. It's not really a huge issue, but a minor annoyance.
It seems that a new media panel can fix the issue. On my 1535, I've gone through 5 of these panels, and the first 4 all had the sticking issue, but this new one hasn't had it once, and it's been over a month since installing it.
If yours ends up having issues, unlikely as that is, then contact Dell and have them replace your media panel.
