    hello

I decided to reinstall everything and make some hardware upgrades. Fisrt of all I upgraded BIOS, DVD firmware etc. Then I installed Win7x64 (proffesional), previously I had Ultimate RTM version. After all almost everything is working fine. System is working great except one thing - something is wrong about power management. Sleep, hibernation and poweroff option is working ok. There is problem with lid only - when it's closed external monitor is turned off (that's ok) and main LCD is black (but backlited). Music is still playing, but also that soon is gone (I always play that from Internet). Fans are working as usual, LCD is not completely turned off, music stops, keyboard is somehow working (i.e. Fn+F10 - dvd key), but I can't do anything with computer then. The only thing that is working then it's holding down power button to turn off computer hard.

In power options I tried to change some options about lid. On plugged in - closing lid: do nothing. For sure its not nothing. I wish it only turned off displays, but this is not working. Computer become unresponsible. I think it's working somehow but I can't turn on screens etc. Also I think that connection is broken (music plays until there is something in buffer).

Ok, You will say that I just should not close lid. That's half true because when computer is left for some time then I will see this black screen of death again. I changed power options not to turn off LCD and it's not hanging but it's not optimal to have two monitors tuned on. Sometimes for hours (i.e. when something bigger is left for download).

I don't know if this is caused by new system (RTM vs Pro), drivers (most of them are replaced by newest) or firmware upgrades. I think something is wrong about power management.
Maybe some of You know what can cause this issue. I can report more data about computer, software and system if they are needed. Problem is strange.

Thanks for a tip, but it's not i7 (it's 1737 which is core 2 duo), also there are no beeps and computer starts normally when it's powered off and again on. I think it's something about power management drivers, but just could not find anything about that in Internet. This can be problem related just to win7x64 - but I don't know yet where should I look for solution.

I don't know if this helped. When I tried that and closed lid computer again hanged up. Then I decided to downgrade bios to previous A05 and that was not successful because computer hanged up durring last phaze (with LCD turned on). Then everything gone - bios started but could not detect any hard drive. I had to boot by DVD and reflash BIOS again. Then had to repair damaged system partition (MBR and boot manager) and at the end I tried again - it still hanged when lid was closed. I turned again screen saver on, and finally somehow it's working now. I still don't know what was the change, and what program caused this issue but hope there will be no issues about power management.
Maybe it's something about network connection. When I try to switch wifi off I have sometime few program hanged up and this can be a reason why it's not going sleep or can't enter some different power plan.

    Thanks everybody for help.

ok i have the s1555 and have something a little similiar. i recently installed win7 pro and for the first few days whenever i close the lid my machine lags for about 5 secs. for example, i had music playing and it will play the last noise for about 3 secs then no sound for 2 secs then continue playing. when i open teh lid it goes to login screen even tho i told it to do nothing.

but it seems to have gone away recently when i installed other drivers that are not essential like quickset, del power plan etc.

any jsut my 2 cents of what happened to me, hope it helps
