    Hi,

I purchased my Lappy( Dell studio 15) in August 2008. Now its not under warranty.

Now i am frustrated with Laptop.

Battery is completely not working. Using only AC Power.
Mine is High configuration(4GB ram, Core 2 duo 2.4GHz processor) but working like P4 processor machine.
I have installed windows vista as OS(what dell sent it to me).

If i take warranty now, can battery replaceable.
Can i remove OS and install windows XP. will it boost the performance.

    Please help me.
I need your suggestion a lot.

In all honesty, 2 years is perfectably acceptable for a newer laptop battery. They just aren't made like they were years and years ago. And just as a word of advice; Decreased charge levels aren't covered by any warranty. Batteries are consumable items and are meant to be user replaced. Most manufacturer warranties only cover batteries that are completely dead or hold a charge for an extremely low time (eg. 5 minutes) WITHIN the warranty period. Some manufacturers offer additional fees for prolonged battery warranties.

I would reimage it with Windows 7, which is basically an optimized Vista.

If it is OOW (out of warranty) you can request a warranty extension through Dell by calling or emailing them with your service tag.

You may have crud, dust obstructing the fan. Locate the fan and holding it down, get canned air or an air compressor and blow out all the crap in it. Also blow out the heatsinks/heatfins.

If that doesn't work, replace the fan, they aren't terribly expensive. Dell service manuals are available to the public on support.dell.com, type your Service Tag

If a new fan still doesn't spin, you have a bad motherboard, and I would really save up for a new laptop.
