I have had a dell 820 for about 3 months and hate it. I have had nothing but issues with slowing and some heat issues also the battery light, wifi indicator do not work AND I had 3 screws fall out of the bottom of the system WTF. I contacted dell support on June 24 and they said they would send me a shipping label and that it would be there in 5 - 7 days.

On July 2 I called to find out where my label was and they said they would overnight one. On July 6th I called to find out where my label was and was told they did not send labels and to call ups to schedule a pickup. Seemed odd but I said ok and called ups who told me no they needed a label to schedule a pickup. I called dell back and was told I would need to speak with returns - transfer hold for 20 mins - returns said talk to tech support - transfer held for about 15mins then call just terminated. i was pissed so I gave up for the day.

I Called on July 8th was transfered a few time and asked to speak to a manager - hold about 10 mins I terminated the call and called back - again transfered between departments and at about the 2 hour total time on the phone I got a rep and asked for a refund. Rep asked if I would reconsider if they shipped a new system to me and then I would return the system with the return label that would be included. I agreed and was quoted 5 - 7 days.

Called on July 16th to find out where the system was AGAIN transfered around finally got a supervisor and she told me I was quoted wrong and that it would be up to 16 days for the replacement to ship since that model was out of production they had to find a refurbish that matched the specs of my original system. I asked what would happen at the end of 16 days if my system did not show up and she said to call back. I said no way let me get a refund. She then asked how long would I be willing to give them and I said if she could ship out right away I would wait until the end of the week. She said she could not guarantee it and after some back and forth she said she was 90z% sure they could not get me a replacement by Friday. So again I said " I will just take the refund now since you do not seem interested in taking care of your customer" she replied "We need our customers to cooperate to get issues resolved" (I use quotes here because this was the only exact quote I could remember) this was it for me. I said I wanted to definantly go ahead with the refund.

I was amazed but UPS was at my door today to pick up the system. Wish they would have been that fast with the repair!

About 4 hours ago I ordered a T61p and will never ever use or recommend dell again!

For those that are interested here are the specs of the t61

At least Dell was nice enough to give you a refund three months later...they did not have to do that at all. I have only heard of one other case in which that happened...me.

One thing I absolutely hate about the new T61 is that the screen is not centered.... bezel is think as a pig on one side and non-existent on the other. That would bother the hell outta me .....

I took that into consideration. I have really tried hard to prepare myself for the ugly factor that comes with Lenovo. I decided I wanted a solid system for business use. If it is ugly, blocky with a matte finish so be it  Seems many companies have went with this all show no go policy. Toshiba was first to do it and it continued down the line.

Look how pretty and shiny it is .... Whats that ? Oh ya... No I cant see it in a room with the lights no due to the glare. Yeah it is a little hot on the legs but thats what pillows and books are for..... Welll the wireless works MOST of the time.... But look how shiney it is oooooh.

I have officially stop worrying about looks its whats inside that counts :D :p Daaang dell has me talking like a woman!!

$2000+ for a laptop with a NVIDIA QUAD NVS 140MW?

Maybe you can overclock something to play freecell smoothly?

lol.. I use a separate system for gaming. This is for code writing and other biz apps such as office. I will us it for CS3 but the cpu and ram should overcome the video cards lack of power.

Sorry to hear about all your problems..though, I don't think it's fair to see you say Dell sucks after they refunded you when they did not have to. Take it as it is..which is an inconvenience, but give them some credit for helping you out. Hope you like your new laptop.

I was incorrect in my 3 month time line. I said 3 months because the rep told me I had had the system for 3 months. I should have known better then to listen to Dell CS.

    Base,Notebook,Core Merom,T7200,D820 4/25/2007

So it was almost at 2 months that I first contacted Dell. Even it it was 3 months I absolutely do not believe that dell did its part and I hold firm to my statement that DELL SUCKS!!!

On a side note -- I got thinking about the video card mentioned earlier and I thought there was a better system that just got released. I double checked and the P series is listed under a different name (Kind of) so I canceled my order , which to about 5 mins from the time I dialed the phone number until the time I hung up and got a conformation email. Not the Dell standard 1 - 2 hours. I then ordered the new laptop but the shipping date changed from Aug 3 to Aug 20... Doooh... I hold mtylerjr accountable with this and will be starting a mtylerjr sucks thread... Just kidding ;) well not really you suck :D

New Specs for those keeping track which is probably no one:

Hate Dell all you want, but know that I've been a dell customer (at least 5 systems, both desktop and laptop, over the last 10 or so years), and I've only had a serious problem with one of them (an Inspiron 1150 that had a loose monitor connection to the graphics card). I sent it back free of charge and in a few days I got a new one. I was very satisfied with tech support - they diagnosed the problem quickly and I was not on the phone for more than 2 hours.

I ordered a Vostro 1500 from them more recently, but realized that a 1400 would save me money and be better overall. It took 2 minutes of holding + 5 minutes of talking to cancel, and over the phone it took about 10 minutes to order the 1400, with the sales rep even saving me a little money over online (I don't know how).

Dells tend to be cheaper than Lenovos by several hundred dollars (their laptops are even cheaper than it would be to custom build one), and I think despite that, Dell has a pretty good customer service reputation, at least with me. In fact, considering that a Thinkpad with the exact same specs as my new Vostro would have costed at least twice as much, I would have been happy with nothing more than a DOA warranty.

I have 5 dells. 2 laptops and 3 desktops. 1 of the laptops had the hdd crash and after the usual bouncing around from tech to tech I got a tech that understood the hard drive crashed and that I could not just reinstall it, you know because the hard drive didn't work anymore. It took 2 weeks to get the drive to me. But I did not jump on the board and complain.

I had the cmos battery go out on one of the desktops after only 6 months. I didn't want to void the warranty so I called dell and, you guessed it got bounced around, and was told to ship it in. When I asked how long it would take they said 5 - 7 days to ship to them, 7-10 days to fix - 5 - 7 days to ship back. F that, so I voided the warranty spent $2 at good ole compusa and spent 2 mins to fix the issue. AGAIN I did not jump on a forum and complain.

I am complaining on this issue because I feel they were very negligent in the way they handled the issue. If they took care of it on the first call I would never of said a word. If they took care of even on the 3rd call almost a month later I would have not said a word. But they did not take care of the issue at all. The fact that they refunded me is not a consolation that I should be happy with.

As far as the "Luck" you had I will say that, it was just luck. As with everything with Dell - your lucky they refunded you, wow your lucky they replaced that, you got lucky that was under warranty, you were lucky you got a good tech. Should your dealings with any company depend on luck?

Not sure if I said it or not but Dell sucks! Even Dell knows they suck since they registered DELSUCKS.ORG DELL-SUCKS.COM DELL-SUCKS.NET and so on. I wont hold my breath waiting for them to put any site on them though ;)

Dell doesn't "suck" as much as IBM/Lenovo is fantastic.

You ordered a $2300 laptop from them, Dell is much more in the business of price/performance.

And not to be a fly in your ointment, but one problem does not mean a company SUCKS. My friend got a Macbook that didn't work out of the box and he had a little trouble returning it (they tried to say it was accidental damage and he was lying). Does Apple suck now? No.
