Today I ordered an e1705 fully loaded. The very nice Dell saleswoman informed me that I can now choose not to get all the preinstalled soft (bloat) ware on it.

Well, I ordered it that way, so let's see what happens. They also claimed I will get a Vista install disc with it (OS only, not a bloat image).

Yea I don't think that option is just a lie. It's still gonna come preloaded with a whole bunch of useless software.

If putting bloatware on the PCs and laptops allows them to sell at lower prices, I don't really mind. It doesn't take much time for me to uninstall them anyways.

Agreed. I figure the worst that happens is that I have to reformat and reinstall. With Vista that does not take that long (due to the new install routine).

If you uninstall a bunch of software do you need to do anything in the registry? if so, what and how?

You're registry is going to have a lot of useless extra entries...but you shouldn't need to do anything.

When you request the OS CDs from Dell, they do indeed ship just the OS CD. Yes, it'll probably have some Dell-like XP/Vista deal going on, but the bits on that disc will not contain any bloatware. Dell, unlike some (cough-HP-cough), recognizes the need to provide an option to eliminate the bloat.
