Dell taking FOREVER to ship my laptop!!!!

I ordered my Inspiron 1525 laptop on March 30, 2008. It was suppose to ship within a week. I ordered along with the laptop a messenger bag for it and a wireless mouse. I have recieved 6 order delays. I have called 3 times and they say they are waiting on parts. FOR A MONTH???? I have ordered computers from Dell in the past and had them no longer than a week and a half later. I find this rediculous!!!! Even the accessories are delayed several times. Someone please let me know if they have any more info on this or have had the same type of trouble. Thank you!!

 

Just out of curiosity, what battery(ies) did you order?

 

Greg is hinting at the exact reason. If you got the 9-cell, you'll be waiting a while since apparently one of the factories went up in smoke.

 

I too ordered the 1525 last Tuesday 4/15 and the expected date to ship is May 9th! This may be due to the fact that I upgraded my screen to the 1440x900 resolution, 3 gigs of ram, and a 1.83 GHz Core 2 duo (i did keep the original battery though). Still... a month to get a computer seems ridiculous. Anyone else have such long delays, and did anyone who thought they would be waiting a month+ get a pleasant surprise with an early arrival??

Dell is probably optimizing for 6-cell shipments, as those are the most common for orders. A good portion of the battery supply chain recently went up in smoke...

 

ordered a 1525, april 16, it is confirmed and in production, says will be shipped may 8th, i had purchased 2 1505 last year and it was all done within a week...Also, i do not remember, when do they charge your credit card???? Is it prior to shipping?? My card has not been charged as of yet. Thanks in advance.

Why did you opt for just the 4-cell battery? On a 15" screen system you won't get much battery life. Unless it will stay mostly on a desk plugged in.

I ordered 3 laptops from Dell, 2 in 2005 and 1 in 2006. All three times I had the laptops within 2-3 weeks from order date, MAX.

Now it's estimating my ship date a full month out and that's just till they ship it, not till it's received. Wowzers. That's pretty poor! I really was not expecting that.

I wouldn't have sold my laptop so soon if I'd known it'd take a month to arrive (or more, if it gets delayed like others have been complaining about).

But with all this talk about batteries...
I'm curious how many people really use up a 4-6+ hour battery, and what for.
I've had a 6-cell battery in all my laptops and have never needed the full hour & 40 minutes of life it gives. I rarely keep my laptop in one place for very long, but always find an outlet so never much need the battery.

 

My sister is the computer person in the family, and she ordered it for me. I don't know the first thing about ordering one.

 

As i said in my previous post, i ordered almost same as yours 4-16. Today i received confirmation that it is shipped, and i will receive by April 28th, now we hope all is working and correct!
