I had my m1330 led lcd screen replaced 2 weeks ago with the hopes that the new one would be good (not grainy). I got another Chimei lcd so it didnt help. Other people have said that the new Samsung or Toshiba led lcds are better so I was hoping to get my screen replaced. I chatted with tech support and they declined a screen replacement because they said, "what's the point, it'll be the same." I explained that a different manufacturer of the screen resolves the issue I have, but I dont think he understood what I was saying. He kept talking about how I can't get a better screen since I didnt pay for it. He concluded by telling me to contact Cust Service. (I'm on hold now).

I hear of so many people getting new screens, replacements, etc, so why am I having difficulty? I actually requested a return 1 week ago but after hearing the news about the new screen, I decided to keep it. I'm a thinking about returning it if Dell won't replace the screen. (I do want to keep it though)

Also, anyone know when the laptop MUST be received by Dell, or when it has to be postmarked before the RMA expires? I checked Dell's webpage and it says that they like to have returns 15 days after the return request. I'm on day 14. Do you think theyl'll be flexible by a couple days?

Sorry for the long post, but I wasnt sure what to do. Thanks!

No he won't. You will get what's in their inventory at the time is all.

If I were the OP, I would just return it ASAP, and reorder later on. Does this promise you getting a LED you want?

No, but atleast you have one more chance to go at it.

umm when was chimeis ever LED screens? You can't get an LED screen if you didnt pay for it, you will just get a regular CCFL LCD.

Acorn, dont scare me like that, for a min you had me thinking I didnt have the LED LCD. But I am certain that I have a LED. My invoice says WXGA TL WLED Backlit LCD.

Update: I requested a new system via the "resolutions" dept.

Yeah, you do have the LED. The tech support agent you chatted with probably didnt fully understand your request. He might have been thinking that you want an upgrade. In the future, explain that you want your LCD replaced, and give them the part number of the replacement model (i.e. Samsung or Toshiba). They will try and comply with you request, but as others have mentioned, you will usually end up getting whatever they have on hand.

    Good Luck!

Booji, I did explain it, twice, he was somewhat rude actually. I made it very clear that I wanted an LCD replacement and that I wasnt asking for an upgrade. Frustrating. Oh well, that's life. Thanks for all the input.

If you're not satisfied with your laptop and they refuse to replace the screen, then return and buy from a different company.

I had my Chi Mei replaced with a Samsung, and the difference is day and night! Dell's "award winning" tech support is really full of ****... If they refuse to replace it, ask to speak with a supervisor, or "specialist," as they call them.

I don't understand peoples' obsession with replacing their screen multiple times. Before you get upset, allow me to explain...

First off, Dell has great prices because they buy from the lowest bidder. That means that while you may pay less buying from Dell, their quality may not be as high as other companies.

I have a Dell 1520 and I love it. The screen is great and I have no problems with it. However, if I had received a poor screen, I would have made an attempt to have it replaced. After one attempt, if it still was not satisfactory to me, I would have returned it and purchased a laptop from another company.

Why? Because it's not worth my time and effort to constantly have a laptop screen replaced and because after receiving two unsatisfactory products, I would conclude that I won't buy from a business that sells me low-quality products and I would buy elsewhere.

I've read too many threads the past months about "This is my 4th screen and it's still grainy!!". Well return your laptop and buy from a different company that doesn't sell you grainy screens. Simple as that.

Crash, the m1330 is supposed to be a premium product, your argument doesn't make any sense.

And if that premium product does not satisfy your standards, then why would you still stick with it?

Because other buyers of that same premium product receive better components?

This conversation/argument could go on for a while and I don't want it to, but in response to your last comment:

So you would support a company that gives one person a high quality product and another a low quality product for the same price? I'm not saying that you should not try to get a better screen, I'm just saying after one, maybe two tries at most, if it doesn't work, buy a different computer from a different manufacturer.

That is my opinion and yours may differ. We don't need to argue about it forever.

    Sammy too....

Looks nice - maybe a bit bluish, but saturation and contrast is superior..
    Me happy!

You can change the color settings in the NVidia Control Panel.

    OP,

Call tech support instead of chatting with them. They have a specialized XPS line which is a shorter wait than the regular inspiron line. They would be able to understand your request and attempt to get you the screen you want. Those techs will certainly realize that the part numbers are equivalent (i.e. same specs) and will be happy to put in the alternate part no. (i.e. the Samsung or the Tosh LED) in the DPS.

with my m1530, i had a similar problem...kinda. after recieving another samsung s3350 screen, with the same grainy screen issue....the tech i dealt with said m1530s ONLY use this screen, he said i couldn't request an "upgraded LG screen" because they are used ONLY on the latitude series.

i wanted to say something like "well isn't this your premium series?? shouldn't i have a premium LCD?" but i held back. instead im haveing a replacement sent out.
