Any thoughts about how this laptop will be?
Dell ultra-slim laptop gets Cougar Point tease, Sandy Bridge Inspirons next week -- Engadget
I'm thinking it's either the new redesigned XPS 14 or a new model like the V130, but with a larger screen, that would be cool, because I posted this as an idea here:
IdeaStorm | Vostro V140 and V150
What do you think?

I would love a 14" lappy. I just haven't found that "one" that I really want yet. Looking forward to more info'
Thx OP.
-
I'm hoping they go back to 13" form like the old xps1330. as slim as the new sony SA but packing better features at a competitive price.
-
I just hope for a higher resolution than the crappy 1366x768 pixels...
-
We need a classy and a strong machine like Vaio-Z or MBP. Dell's "designer customer" side is so weak right now. It might sound stupid, but this exists. For computing, there is a huge, strong community of creators, artists. Providing computers for casual users or gamers is important. What I m trying to say, denying another community is not clever.
-
It could also be something like Adamo with Sandybridge and dedicated graphics + a good premium screen with high contrast, but it will be expensive, and Adamo was never available in my country, so i'm also hoping for a worldwide released just like the ultraslim V13 and v130.
-
That woudl be perfect, to be honest I could live without ultra slim if I could have a good quality 1600x900 13" screen, sandybridge i7, dedicated graphics , either reasonable cost ssd or easy to remove hdd, Backlit keyboard and 4 hrs of video playback.
The problem with the current crop of 13" models is they all have some compromises, most come with poor screens. The only hodl out woudl be the sony SA but they not very friendly with the prices. -
I'm waiting to see what they bring out. I've got the M1330 and want to replace it with something the same size, looks good - like the M1330 does. But without the same issues as the M1330 had..
Was looking at the MBP, but what you get for the price doesn't stack up. -
any thing powerful with adamo fusion will be rockstar
-
We'll know next month...

Is this the new ultraslim laptop; Shop Dell Latitude Laptops | Dell ?
-
No, it has not been announced yet.
-
haing seen the new sb inspiron and vostro from dell i hope they hurry up with the supposed "thin and light".
I am just worried that they will concentrate to much on the thin part and gimp it like the new samsung or macbook air.
full volt dual core i7, backlit keyboard high res screen, it if intergted grpahic that shoudl be reflected in the price, andif the hard drive is not easily user replacable then 256ssdoption, preferable a new controller drive and don't go out like sony trying to charge £690 for it. -
-
Okay so its mid April and Dell appear to have refreshed every laptop they have with SB so when is this new ulta portable coming?
Most other manufactures have there options out now so Dell can see what it needs to offer to beat the competition.
Probably the most important factor will be the screen quality as aside from the upcoming Sony SA and the Macbook air most 13" model have very basic screens.
I would also hope they are brave enough to be the first to dich the optical drive. -
I'd love to see another 14incher by Dell. I'm satisfied with my xps 14 overall but I'm really not a fan of the design, would like to see something more stylish and somewhat sharp egded(not corners). The GPU could use some help too, GT 555M or better would be ideal. But then I doubt all these would fit into a slim laptop, especially "ultra slim", could only dream lol. i7 quads would be lovely but i5s should work well, too.
NC79 has a good point though, ditching the optical drive would free up quite a bit of space to fit in other more important and more commonly used stuffs. And a good quality screen is a must, though if it's as easily swappable as the one on xps 14 I wouldn't mind doing it myself. -
Looks like Alienware (Dell) is announcing their 14in next week.. Maybe the new 14in from Dell will get announced the same day?
-
Still no trace of the ultra slim while the m14x has mostly been revealed. Looking back it's almost exactly what I described lol.
-
Hope we get some details of this soon. I'm torn between the Samsung 9 series, this depending on the spec and maybe something heavier duty like a refreshed HP Envy 14.
I'd particularly like this dell to have a dedicated GPU but probably unlikely in this form factor. -
LOL I read about these and was willing to wait but I bought a Vostro V13 for the cheap due to a Dell pricing error on their website.
-
I am still waiting to see if they come up with another 13" xps system hopefully there will be something soon.
-
My impression from reading the article was it would be more for business. Still I expect they won't come as cheap as my new V13 with 4GB of memory for $339, lol. -
I am thinking that it will be the business line like the latitude ones they already have released but they are pricey. -
-
I'm still hoping for a Vostro V140 and/or V150, as I suggested back in December, that would be cool:
IdeaStorm | Vostro V140 and V150 -
I would have though with the hyping of being thin and light and that Dell have refreshed a range of 14"+ laptops with SB that this new model would definatly be sub 13.3.
Would love to see a take on the Vaio Z with 13" screen and high performance specs at a reasonble price.
I know once it's annaounced it will be avaliable to order pretty quick but it woudl be better to get some pre-release info. -
-
I just want a thin light notebook that does 1920x1200... errr... 1920x1080... WUXGA is extinct now.
-
Has anyone heard anything on the ultra slim laptop yet?
Im thinking of getting the x220, but I'm hanging to see if any other options present themself. -
I doubt it will be better than a X220 with IPS screen, unless you need something a little bigger, which I think Dell is working on...
-
Something in the 13 to 14 inch range would be better for me than the 12.5 inch of the x220. The only reason Im considering the x220 is because of the IPS screen. I have looked at the t420 and t420s, but reviews indicate the screen is substandard.
Im not expecting any Dell to have an IPS display, but a reasonably high quality display is a bare minimum for me.
I like to have all possible options before dropping a large amount of cash on a computer. -
You know if this was an Apple, there would be 27 tech blog sites with pictures of it from some asian website.
I'm still hoping for that FHD ultra-slim Dell. -
-
I hope it looks more like the original Adamo than the Adamo XPS.
-
-
-
Perfect for me, would be a thin and light 14" IPS screen with a resolution of 1680x1050, but that's probably wishful thinking.
-
Well if Dell ever need encouragement to deliver big on its ultra-slim computer, I think it now has it in the Thinkpad X1. A slim, nice-looking laptop with great specs.
-
What's the price, it's not up on the Lenovo website? -
-
nvm $2,920 starting price, no thanks

I saw a post on Engadget back in february for a 13" slim tablet convertible laptop to come out in June called the Latitude XT3. I wonder if this is what the blogger was referring to:
Dell Latitude XT3 convertible tablet, hands-on (video) -- Engadget -
I got a teaser flyer in the mail over a month ago with a photograph (mistakenly threw it away) that got me ready to upgrade my ultra-portable. The release date is supposed to be now. I keep checking. Where IS this ultra-slim laptop????
-
-
How did it look like ?
-
Bronsky -
I'm sure the X1 will be a beautiful looking machine at least from the pictures i've seen but it's way out of my price point. -
The X1 is still to business orientated I want a backlit keyboard, large touchpad with mouse buttons no trackpoint as I'm not going to be touchtyping loads.
Dell only have a couple of days left to announce really hope its not a tablet though.
