Which card is better, the Dell one or the Intel one? (Sorry in advanced if this topic was covered already)

The Intel supports wireless 802.11a, but hardly anyone uses that. Otherwise they are identical from what I can tell.

I used to think the intel was better becasue its a name brand, but the dell has plus points for it being cheaper
-
even though i dont have either (still actually waiting to get a laptop), but i heard that intel's connect better
-
i thought i recall seeing a comment that the intel card had more range...i.e., distance from the router...but even if it does i doubt its significant...in any case i paid a couple bucks extra for the intel myself...
-
Well, I don't personally know which is better, but when I was looking at purchasing a notebook here a week or so ago, I was customizing one, and the Intel card was listed as Dell Reccomended, so maybe that tells you something.
-
if you get the intel card, you can call your notebook a centrino notebook. not sure if that means anything to you or not.

I found the Intel 3945 card on newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833106001
Id get it, but installing it requires taking out my keyboard and i'm scared of breaking it -
I have the intel card in a 1505 I bought for my kids and it works pretty good. I also have the dell card in a 1705 that I bought for me and there is no difference between them that I have seen. Range seems the same, also I get about 6 networks around me and the signals are about the same on both machines.
I only put the intel card in the 1505 to get the price over 1499 for the rebate at the time. -
Get an Intel over a Dell. The difference may not be noticeable, but it's not a huge price difference either. You also get "Centrino" sticker on your laptop with Intel WLAN card.
-
So what your saying is that he should pay more for a name? Ill send you my centrino sticker for the $30 and get me a case of Heineken =). Unless there is some noticeable advantage to the intel just save your money.
-
Here is a link if you want to find out the difference, there the same thing! Save your money and go with the DELL unless your spoiled
and like to give away money

Appart from the "centrino" crap, i'd go with the intel.
I had a del 1350 on my old laptop and it wasnt that bad, but i get better reception and connect faster to the networks through the intel 3945, which is what i'm currently using.
BTW, the dell is a broadcom chip.
