Like most here I am on a long wait for my 1330(Sept 20 :( ). I did a search and was curious as to the build quality of the VAIO series. I have owned Thinkpads and Dells but never a Sony computer. For my money I thought the Thinkpads were better built than the Dells but I also am intrigued by the 1330. Since it seems like pessimism is the view on getting a 1330 within a reasonable time is it worth going in the direction of Sony. My gut says no but I can't base it on any history, if there are any among you that could voice an opinion I would appreciate it.
    Thanks

I've owned both the SZ and the m1330 and feel that the Sonys are made better.
The LED screen on the Sony is better, and it's also thinner. It is carbon fiber, and that means it looks fragile and actually can bend, but it can take the abuse. No keyboard flex on the Sonys.

The m1330 seems solid in its own right but I wonder if the paint will come off, just seems more generic, and the tolerances are less. Things seem snapped together. The Sony might appear flimsier at first, but upon further review (I ended up giving it to my gfriend) I now feel it to be superior to the m1330 (to be fair I just got the m1330). If I had equal $ to spend, I'd get the Sony, and that's what I'll probably do.

The Sony is also definitely lighter (and it's not the battery, as both have 56 watt-hour batteries), but the Dell has better ports, extras. Better web cam on the m1330. But the stock ac adapter on the Sony's (before SZ6) are huge, and if you add in that factor, the weight is probably pretty close in terms of total travel weight.
