I noticed that the 8600GT for the Dells is a 256mb card, and the one on the Sager 2090 is a 512mb.....is that 256 dedicated, 256 shared, making them essentially the same card, or is the one on the Sager actually better. If the one on the Dell is less powerful, will it be noticeable at all. I.E, when playing Medieval 2, will the Sager actually perform better, or will it be near identical?

Honestly, it won't make a difference at all. The 256MB chip on the Dell is ALL dedicated memory, and I think the 512MB is 256MB dedicated and 256MB shared.

But the bottom line that is important: that card is a mid-range card that is only going to be able to effectively use about 256MB...so there is no difference. 512MB is just a marketing sham, 'cause it costs probably only a few more cents to do, doesn't really add anything useful, but more people buy it thinking that 'more is always better.' :D

It's just like the ATI x1400. It advertises 256MB, but only 128MB is dedicated. The other 128MB is shared. Just like night said though, it won't make a difference. They are the same card. I bet that Sager is just advertising it like that so that more people would buy it thinking it was the best.

Yeah. It definitely is a sexy machine. I bit on the heavy side, but I guess that's what the 1420 and 1520 are for. Lol.
