Got a Dell Vostro 1400 with WXGA+ screen.
It came in 2 days ago and had a terrible Grainy AUO screen.
Called dell and they said they will replace the screen ( I honestly did not want to get a replacement for laptop because this one has no headphone jack noise).
I told them OK.
Today I got the replacement screen and It's a Samsung Refurbished....
I put it in and it's a good screen with minimal grain....
But my question is..... REFURBISHED? wtf?
I mean, yeah it's working and I like it but a refurbished replacement screen in a 2 day old laptop?
Does dell always send out refurbished replacement screens?

A replacement can be new or refurbed. As long as it works.
-
Did they let you install the screen?
-
My understanding is if the laptop is under 21 days (30 in Canada) the replacement (whole unit) is new. After that, it can be new or refurb. -
The replacement (whole unit) must be new, but the replacement (one unit) can be new or refurbished. One falls under the return policy, the other is under the service policy.

I told the CS rep that I don't trust the Tech... Last time they did the screen replacement on my other vostro 1500, the guy butchered the bezel trying to take it off. I don't know who taught him but you dont put a metal flat head in between the crack and try to pry it open. it damages the bezel (leaves dents) and scratches the back panel. The back of the Vostro is painted black on magnesium.
I told the CS rep that I have DCSE account and I feel much much better doing the repair myself.
The guy said ok and sent me the part.
I don't care if it's a refurbished as long as it's good which it is. I'm just wondering are replacement parts new/refurbished even if the unit itself is under 30 days?
Just an inquiry, not saying bad or anything. -

yep replacment parts are usually refurb's unless a new one is specifically requested.. they do send out new ones when refurb's are not available
