It is funny seeing how Dell has no faith in Vista at all.

It'll stay in Vendor channels until they've sold all their purchased licences anyway I would of thought. It wont be disappearing oveer the near future.

They are also lengthening the time due to the release of the newer ASUS Eee PC 900 series and other Ultra Portables.

I honestly don't understand all the issues surrounding Vista.

Exactly. It's silly how people -- who may genuinely have good points against Vista but then become stupid and start acting like Vista is completely non-functional, which is what people did with XP lol -- try to interpret news based on their own crazed beliefs. Microsoft already stated that they were going to extend XP for the ultra-portables because it's a new market. And there's no reason for Dell, as a company, to not continue to offer XP so long as Microsoft is continuing support or as long as people are requesting XP.

I think a lot of it is people aren't willing to learn Vista.

I'm one of them. BUT a lot of people and manufacturers are trying to put Vista on machines it simply will not run on. It does have higher system requirements.

Vista really doesn't take much learning.

My main beef with it is the jacked up system requirements where I don't really see any gain by it...

There's nothing to "learn" unless you've never used Windows before. It's very intuitive and it looks great. Yes, it does take much more resources and perhaps the "bang for the buck" is not great, but I have yet to see any glitches or incompatibilities.

I'll admit that Vista isn't hard to learn, but using XP just feels so much faster and responsive :p

I wonder if you'll be able to legally install and activate XP after MS discontinues support. Will you have to resort to a crack if you don't have a corporate version?

For what it's worth, I own 5 copies of XP Pro. Two came with my computers, two I bought retail and one I got through the college's MSDN. Either Best buy sold me 2 illegal copies of XP, Gateway stuck 2 invalid keys on the side of my PCs and MSDN is using invalid serial keys or XP naturally won't activate - I've always had problems with windows activation.

I've never had problems activating XP. But I know someone with Vista who had problems. He thinks someone with a key generator generated his key.

Even after it stops selling MS is legally required to continue activations on legit licenses...otherwise they'd be committing mass theft.
