Hey guys I just got my new XPS M1530 but had a hard time getting it to work with my Dlink wifi G router with broadcast turned off. Vista would not detect it but the Dell wireless utility picked it up. I had to install the latest drivers then go into properties for the card and set IBSS channel to 11 and then band preference to B/G.
Has anyone had issues like this? Should I get the wireless N intel card instead?
My sisters laptop picks up the router fine but she just has a basic intel wifi card in her dell and its not wireless N.

Not a very technical response, but yes, Intel's card is better.

I've got the 1505 with my m1330 and haven't had any issues with N connectivity in Vista or even Kubuntu Gutsy.

Intel cards have better 64 bit drivers, but still nowhere as good as Atheros.

Hi, why is the Intel card better than Dell's exactly? What issues come up with Dell that do not come up wtih Intel and vice versa? Much thanks!

In short it chipset compatibility with other hardware.
While some member have no problem with the Dell card connecting to their wireless router the Intel has a better stable and compatibility connection then Dells with some of the big guns out there Netgear, D-Link, Linksys 3com etc. After reading details on the net I switched my Intel card for a Gigabyte N draft 2 card which is Atheros chipset and must say much better I have found then Intel..
Router was a netgear DG834N which worked great for me which I have now swapped for a netgear WNDR3300 router as the person could not get this to work on their system lovely router I must add.

Hi, thanks for the info/clarification. Now it makes sense. Interesting how this all works in terms of why one card will connect with a router and another can't and how you might have the same cards but one will work with a router but the other won't on the same router. Anyway, sounds like the intel card is worth the little bit extra money. However, for me, I would have to think long and hard before spending $70 or so (I have seen the cards on ebay) on a Gigabyte card, lol! Thanks again.

The Dell card gets the same signal as my sisters Intel card actually, the only thing about the Dell card is that I had to go into dev manager and set it to scan for G signals when I had broadcast SSID on my router turned off for it to connect to it. Apart from this I have no issues, it connects right away if SSID is turned on and is very stable, macs actually use the same chipset in their wifi cards(broadcom) so if u wanna play around with osx this is a good card :)

Apple is using Broadcom and not Intel?
Is it possible to order the 1330 X3100 with the Intel draft n card? It seems in the UK they offer ist only with the Intel g or the Dell draft n card...
