At CompUSA I saw an HP "High-Definition BrightView" display and it looked fantastic. I've read (here) that Sony's XBRITE and Fujitsu's Crystal View are on par with (or better than) HP's BrightView.

Does Dell have anything that plays in that league? After seeing that HP display I don't think I'd be too happy with anything less. :)

This is by far the #1 selling point priority for me. A crappy display makes for a ****ty computing experience.

Just a few replies (below) in the first page or two of threads. Nothing seems too conclusive, nobody has compared it to the competition that I see. I'll keep reading.

Dell uses "Crystal Clear" display to denominate the glossy finish you speak of, it's available in the 700m, this is not the same screen you would get with the 9300 so don't worry about horse flies!

Dell Says true life provides higher contrast than non-glare screens. I wasn't aware of something that's not non-glare and not glossy. In fact, that sounds pretty bad!

I believe: True Life is glossy coated, like HP briteview, etc. Ultrasharp could be the same resolution as a noon-ultrasharp, but they usually seem to have better viewing angle and brightness.

So basically I see Ultrasharp, True Life, and Crystal Clear all used in reference to Dell machines. I just wonder what it all really means, and how it stacks up.

The Dell 6000 screen is not as bright and sharp as the screen you saw in the store, it's not the same screen at all, it is a matte (non-glossy, non-extra bright) screen, just look at all the other screens in the store and that's basically what the 6000 is like. The Dell Inspiron 700m is the ONLY DELL MACHINE with the equivalent of "TruBrite", "BriteView", "XBrite" or whatever else.

So WHAT is this True life business? I ordered the regular (well recieved according to people here) screen on my 9300, but I almost with I had tried the truelife just to see what it's like!

i think the HP screen are crap, way too much inverse color effect. IMO, gateways bright screen is even better.

If screen is important to you, which i assume it is, get a sony or toshiba or fujitsu
