LG Display CEO: May Supply LCDs To Dell In Long-Term Contract
SEOUL -(Dow Jones)- South Korea's LG Display Co. (034220.SE) may supply liquid crystal display panels to Dell Inc. (DELL) under a long-term contract, LG Display Chief Executive Young-Soo Kwon said.
The U.S. computer maker wants to secure a stable supply of LCDs for its computer monitors, Kwon told reporters Wednesday night. His comments were embargoed until early Thursday.
"Both companies have discussed forging a long-term contract and talks are now proceeding well," he said.
The chief executive also said LG Display discussed a possible sale of a stake in the Korean panel maker held by Philips Electronics of the Netherlands to Dell.
But the stale sale talks aren't proceeding well because of "difficulties" at the U.S. company, he said, without elaborating.
LG Display may cut its panel output if market conditions worsen significantly, the chief executive said.
