About how long will Dell's Mobility SSD (128gb) last before degrading? Does it need to be defragmented?
-
I can't answer your first question (though I'd be interested in an answer for that as well) but you wouldn't want to defragment SSDs as it adds unnecessary wear and provides what is essentially no benefits, thus lowers the length of their life.

Dell uses Samsung SSDs which are probably the most reliable of the mainstream SSDs. Don't worry about degradation, while every HDD and SSD has it, it shouldn't be a significant factor in yours.

Ah, thanks.

Yeah, SSD's are flash memory and are quite different from hard drives. I won't get technical, but you never have to defrag a flash drive, that's only hard drives.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
As for the lifespan, an SSD should long outlive comparable spinners in theory, but at the moment, no one's owned a true mainstream SSD for more than a year to a year and a half, so these claims really aren't particularly verifiable.

we have received several Dell Latitudes with Sandisk SSD's at work. so I'm not sure all Dell SSD's are samsungs.
