This guide is a brief explanation of each notebook Dell is currently offering. In the Bullets are the included specs with the most basic version. In other words, its the cheapest verson from dell and you can go from there. I put in the customiziation page to each notebook to. (Basic System) Suggestions are welcome and thanks for taking a look!

Basic Dell's
(Please note: Since at this date, are quite new, there is less info about them. When more use and comments are brought up, i will add more info. Thanks

B120

The B120 is dells most "basic" computer. This dell is perfect for a basic computer user and a good gift for that someone that needs just a basic laptop. This computer from dell comes with these specs:

• 14.1 Inch WXGA Screen
• Intel Celeron M 360 1.4GHz
• Windows XP Home Edition
• 256MB Shared, 1 DIMM
• 40GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
• 24X CD Burner/ DVD Combo Drive
• No Integrated Wireless Support
• Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
• 4 Cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Those are the options for the Dell B120

Dell B130

The Inspiron B130 is perfect for that person that just wants a basic laptop, except unlike the B120, this has a slightly bigger screen, and is more customizable. This is the gift for someone that wants a basic computer with a few higher specs than the B120. Available specs here:

Dell's Entertainment Notebooks

Dell 700m (710m coming soon)

The 700m is the smallest notebook in the inspiron series that Dell offers. It has good looks, and is very portable. It is considered an Entertainment notebook, so its a good choice for portable needs, yet good enough to views pictures on. Movies might not be comfortable for viewing on the 700m though. Other than that, if you need a portable laptop from Dell, the 700m is a very good choice. Included Specs from Dell:

Dell 600m

The Dell 600m is the oldest in this line up. I must include this since Dell does still sell it.Its a portable laptop still with a 14.1. Its good for photos and enternainment, music and productivity. It can come in a Celeron Package, or the Centrino Package. Below listed is the minimal Centrino package.

Dell Inspiron 6000

The Dell 6000 is a fairly new 15.4 inch Dell. Its the perfect choice if you dont want to lug around a large desktop replacement, but still have a decent sized laptop. Its good for viewing movies, music, and productivity. Here is Dell's Basic 6000. Specs:

Dell Inspiron 9300

The Dell 9300 is a very good choice for the desktop replacement category. It has the 6800Go Card so games are superier on this machine. Photos, movies, gaming, and productivity. Personally, this would be my pick for a gamer that wants a gaming laptop, at a very decent price. This laptop wouldn't be the best to lug around to school so keep that in mind. Here are specs for the basic system:

The XPS Line

Dell XPS M140

The M140 is one of the newer Dells just released a couple months ago. It packs a punch at a small size of a 14.1 inch Dislpay and weighing 5.5 pounds. It does well at veiwing photos, playing movies, and productivity. If you want a portable notebook and even have some compliments on the looks of this machine, it might be considered for you. Below is the M140 at the Basic system or the cheapest setup:

• Intel Pentium M Processor 740 (1.73GHz)
• Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center
• 14.1 inch WXGA LCD Display
• 512MB Shared DDR2 SDRAM 2 Dimms
• 60GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
• 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
• Intel Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless
• Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900

Dell XPS M170

Wow, this XPS is truely amazing. This is Dell's top notebook computer. It does spectactular at gaming with its 7800 Go Card. That card is only available on select notebooks, and if you are a serious gamer, this might be the laptop to look at. It also does great a viewing photos, watching movies, and productivity. This thing is of course huge with a 17inch screen. If you feel you cant lug this around, you might want to look at a different laptop. This is a great machine and the one selling point of it, is gaming. (Just to add: The main reason of this system is the 7800 Go card. If you feel like your not going to get that card, the 9300 might be a better choice). Here is the M170 at the lowest specs available:

• Intel Pentium M Processor 760 (2 GHz)
• Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center
• 17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife
• 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm

Cool guide Nick, this will definitely steer people looking for a Dell in the right direction.

 

One suggestion: change the 700m to read the smallest inspiron notebook. Dell has other smaller notebooks in the latitude series.

You've made a guide only for the Inspirons, how about the Latitudes?

 

The Inspiron 700m isn't around 6 pounds, more like 4 pounds with standard battery and 4.5 pounds with 8-cell (larger battery). Just to be exact.
