I have seen a lot people talking about the education disount. I am making this guide to clarify some confusions. Please note this guide is base my purchase on 1520. Feel free to make any corrections and comments.
1.How to get the dell education discount
First off, you must be a college student or going to college this fall. Go to www.delluniversity.com to register. You will need find ur school and enter ur school email with .edu. There should a email right after you are done.
2.I get the email. Now what?
Click on the link that takes you the discount portal. This where you have to make choices between configuring sytem from ground up and the special offers.
3.Which offer should I choose?
The price difference depends on the price range. Here is why.
Configuring sytem from groumd up is the best when u r getting a premium system since the discount is in percenter and the more u configured, the more u save. The catalog price is somwhat higher, but here is $200 coupon to offset the difference.
The second choice, special offers, are great when ur budget is sub-$1300, which my budget. The special offers are somewhat pre-configured for u. But you can still customize them. The special offer system also includes a $99 printer. However, u cant get rid of it, it is combined with the system.
Note: You cant use the $200 coupon on special offers. Catalog stystem only!
4. I am quality for the education discount. But I cant find the $200 anywhere
If u have registed before June 26th, you have register again with a different school address. Not all university will let u get a new school email. If that is the case, u can also enter ur own email, but u need to provide the proof of admission.
5.It is still out my budget what should I do? .
There are few thing that u may never need, depend on you. In the special offer, you can get rid of the accidental protection plan, which is $119. I trust myself too take care the computer and I doubt there will be any accident. If you care less about the color, choose the jet black, which is $20 cheaper. You can also get rid of the webcam.($28)
6.Sample configuration
I configured the system as cheap as possible, while getting as much gaming performance as possible. I configued through the special offer.

Does anyone know if there's a similar discount for Canada?
-
So this isn't a coupon code? That's no fun. I wanted to get the discount on one of their "specials," with the 12% off.
Bah. -
Wow, that's a great deal! I just purchased one through the employee purchase program and didn't get that much off! I paid right at 1650 for mine, and I didn't even get the higher rez screen!
(everything else was just about the same on the build) I still ended up with a discount of like 600 or so, I guess not too bad, but would have waited until I started school this fall to purchase if I had known what a better deal I would've gotten.
-
the dell site is really screwy. I cant get the 12% discount to show up...any help?
-
I am also curious about Canadian version of this
-
Wait a second...is this $200 coupon in addition to the 12%? I signed up at 1:30 AM on the 26th and don't see any $200 coupon. Is it select models only?
kevo1022, the 12% discount shows up when you add the computer to your cart. Adding it to your cart in no way binds you to purchasing it, so add and remove configurations to your cart as much as you want to see the total (pre-tax) price. -
aahh...found the 200$...in your (college) email account, there should be an email from dell containing the coupon code fore 200 off.

OK, got the coupon thanks to still having email accounts with universities I turned down. But I noticed the prices before the coupon was applied are about $150 higher than they were early on the 26th when I first configured the models. Thanks for helping me find that!

for some reason, i cannot add the $200 education discount coupon with the $253 EPP discount. is anyone else having this problem? i got the 7% and the 12% discounts but im trying to get the $253 EPP and $200 education discount at the same time as well. i might finalize my order over the phone tomorrow to see if i can get the discounts going as well.

They worked yesterday. Dell disabled the stacking of the 200 dollar coupon with the other EPP discount this morning.
