They cancelled my order due to their mistake. First they extended the shipping date for my laptop then they just cancelled it!

I called them and the rep tells me that he's sorry for the inconvenience this has caused me and that many orders placed around end of September and early October got cancelled admitting that it was a mistake on their part. That was a way of making me feel better!?!

Some people on this forum got calls or emails from them. I didn't even get that! I was thinking that it shipped out on Friday (the estimated delivery date they provided) and so decided to look up the tracking number from the site. That's when I found out that it's cancelled!

This is pathetic. I thought dell was a reputable company. Completely unethical business processes. There was no price or spec error on the laptop I bought. It was a legit sale item that they had on sale for several days even after I had placed the order!

The rep offered to give me a hundred dollars off on an almost similar laptop priced $300 more than what I paid!

Any way we can escalate a complain to them. It's ridiculous that they can get away with this!

Now all you have to do is say the same about HP , Lenovo , etc.

Either way , it would be nice to explain what you ordered.

You do know that there is a shortage of parts for some of the newer laptops , right?

Mentioning those companies is not excuse for a company that sells primarily over the internet. With Lenovo, HP etc, you can go into a store an buy the laptop there.

For an online store, they should have legitimate reasons for cancelling orders BEFORE they confirm it. I was just told that they don't make a peripheral of the laptop I ordered anymore. That would explain why they had it on their website for weeks after my order was placed?? In either case, they could have had the decency to call me an let me know. All this aside, they admit it's their mistake.

    Specs for laptop I ordered:
    Dell Inspiron 7520 (15R SE)
    3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i7-3632QM processor (4 cores, 6MB cache, up to 3.2Ghz)
15.6" Full High Definition (1080p) LED Display (Not Touch screen)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz
    1TB 5400RPM SATA HDD + 32GB mSATA SSD w/Intel Smart Response
    Radeon™ HD 7730M 2GB
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless 2230, 2x2 bgn + Bluetooth
48 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery
    Wireless Display Capable (WiDi)

Specs they are giving me now:
    Dell 15Z
    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3537U processor (4M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
    15.6" 1366x768 touch display
    8GB DDR3 2 DIMM 1600MHz
500GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD and 32GB mSATA SSD
    Nvidia® GeForce® GT630M 2G
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless 2230, 2x2 bgn + Bluetooth
44 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Batt

They are saying this configuration is going to cost me another 200 dollars + taxes! For a smaller cpu, a crappier display, an inferior graphics card and less hard disk I have to pay 200 plus taxes more?

If they canceled the order and are trying to pawn a shotty computer off on you for more money, why not just ask for a refund and go somewhere else?

fwiw, I've heard horror stories of ordering direct form Lenovo and Sony.

Lenovo definitely has inventory issues. I ordered from them enough to know that.

That one is refurbished. I wasn't able to find anything useful there for canada. They are charging 100+ on customs. But I agree that it might be a good option for someone that doesn't mind open box.

By the way, at this point, I'd rather wait a month to get a laptop than give dell my money. I realized that deal was not the best one out there. But I will definitely file a complaint with Better Business Bureau against Dell. They need to change this practice and I'd encourage anyone reading this tread that's been burned this way to do the same.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Canceling is bad. Not emailing you is inexcusable.
Offering a worthless discount to get you to spend more money is pathetic.
Call and complain again, and in the end vote with your money.

i wonder who's the genius who came up with "we send you email if you order is delay but we will not notify you if you order is cancelled"

    Hi Dude,

I ordered the exact same machine (Apart from mine has the 720p display with true life instead of the 1080p) and without the 32gb msata on the 22nd of october, it was ment to be delivered today, I phoned dell the other day and they said it would now be delivered on the 11th, it has shown as "Departed Manu Facility - China" and "Pending" since the 29th and Dell are ignoring all my calls / emails.

I don't think I am ever going to get it.

How far did you get on the Walsh Western tracking info before your machine got cancelled? Did they ever say which components they no longer make?

    Regards,

    Tom.

P.S, I am in the UK.

Ok, So I spoke to Dell who said that they do still make this laptop and do still have parts.. Either way I should be able to expect my order by the start of next week at the latest. They have also offered me a 10% discount + vat

I will let you all know how I get on..

This is horrible. Ask for an inconvenience fee.
