I met a friend and he's from Taiwan. I asked him what does he thinks about Dell notebook. He said that overall, Taiwanese prefer to use HP-compaq notebooks instead of dell because the latter frequently "crashes".

I told him about the advantages of DELL to no avail... He was quite hard headed. I have experiences of crashes somewhere in between of usage of my DELL notebook.

    What's your take on this?

I have no problems with my XPS 1530 crashing on me...BSOD nothing...
My GPU has failed a few times..but my warranty handles that. FF has failed on me a few times..but I considered those *temporary glitches*.

I think it all depends on the person, each individuals *wants and needs*.

No Notebook brand Manufacturer is 100% perfect. Each brand/and or model made has their own *issues*.

They both use the same OS, the same processors, the same harddives, same chipsets, same memory chips............

Maybe that Dell logo is secretly distracting the hamster wheel.

I don't get why it makes a difference what Taiwanese users think is better?

I don't know how this friend would know what Taiwanese users want. Does he have market or survey data? I wouldn't just ask any friend in New York City what laptop brand Americans prefer.

That's like asking/saying what car manufacturer people like the most. Everyone will have their preference, and there will ve a large number of opinions. Perhaps in a small enough population there will be an overwhelming majority, but I bet in a population of over 300 million, you'll get a good showing for most brands that are well known...

Do you know how many people said Vista sucked compared to XP, that Microsoft failed, etc, etc, etc...and then never actually tried the OS out themselves?

Yeah, that person you mentioned is probably in that crowd as far as Dell computers go.

Seriously, I heard so many terrible things until I got my m1530 with Vista. Vista is good at some things and not at others, but overall its way better than the exaggerated media snowball that claims its the next incarnation of Windows NT. Did any of these people actually use NT when it came out?

I would say that such negative perception can be traced back all the way before 1990's, when DELL was in the same rank as Packard Bell in terms of computer workmanship quality. And in addition, HP and IBM was the one who have longest history in the computer business and technology.
Hence... more Asians prefers HP and IBM.

However, when IBM brand was acquired by Lenovo several years ago, the ThinkPad sales does not suffer any drop in response/popularity as majority of buyers still thinks that ThinkPads are made by IBM.
HP on the other hand, still remains the popular choice, although their price soars.

Back to DELL. I wonder would you guys agree that the popularity of DELL starts to climb when they pushed out the better built and robust Inspiron, Latitude, and Precision to the market? Not to forget the most recent Vostro series...

Before DELL gain it's popularity, you might have heard of people making comments of "DELL HELL" or things like that...
Hell as in hardware configuration quality.
    Hell as in workmanship quality.
Hell as in after sales service quality.
Hell as in... more to mention...

But now majority of people have a different point of view on DELL products. As those little "Hell" bugs are slowly corrected as years passed.
