How does Dell's version of the upgraded screen (forgot the name, basically their version of Brightview) compare to the other brands, HP, Sony, Fujitsu, etc.? I've heard that Dell's screens are a matte finish where the others are a more glossy finish. Is one better than the other? I'm interested in the i6000.

    Thanks

i6k doesn't have Brightview but it is bright. It currently has the standard matte format.

700m is the only brightview equivalent available.

Is what Dell calls "UltraSharp" the Brightview equivalent?

So the 700m comes with a glassy finish screen like the Fujitsu notebooks?

I believe that "TrueBright" is their equivalent to XBRITE, Crystal View, Bright View etc.

A buddy of mine just bought a Dell I9200 with a WUXGA and the matte finish really does not do it justice IMO. I have a Compaq X6000 on the way with a WSXGA Brightview and the glossy finish really tops them of, I only with I could have got it in a WUXGA.

So does the i6000 WSXGA+ screen look good in comparison to the Brightview's on the HP's? It just doesn't have the glossy coating?

Well, I drove to various local stores (Best Buy, Fry's, Dell kiosk at mall) and compared the various models I was interested in. Here is my results, ranked in order:

    1. Fujitsu N3510 - the screen on this was flat out awesome. Crisp, vibrant, clear... way cool.

    2. Compaq v2000 or HP dv1000 - the brightview screen is very nice too but not as good as the Fujitsu in my opinion. I did notice that the HP seemed brighter than the Compaq while the Compaq was more vibrant. Both had the blackening effect when viewing from the side.

    3. Dell i6000 - Dell kiosk did not have the i6000 so I tried to find a comparable model. I looked at the i9200. Yes, the screen is larger however I believe they both were the same type. It looked pretty good, vibrant colors, fairly bright. I ranked it 3rd only because I wasn't sure if it was the same as in the i6000.

Having said all that, I'm leaning towards the i6000 because I can get a faster HD and more ram on the video card than the other models. Also, it is only around $75 more expensive than the cheapest alternative, the dv1000 or v2000.

Titanium, I know the dv1000 and i6000 are two different types of machines, but how would you compare the two since you own or owned both? Thanks

Brightview is nice, I have to admit. I loved it on the DV1000 and the rest of the HP/Compaq line. The screen on my i6k is excellent, though, so I don't miss the Brightview feature.

For the Brightviews, I think Sony has the best.[)]
