I've read about people having problems with Dell's cards.

The options for the Inspiron 1520:

    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g mini-card - base

    Intel 3945 802.11a/g mini-card - +$25

    Dell Wireless N mini-card - +$50

The Vostro's offer an Intel Wireless N for +$50, but is for some reason absent from the Inspiron config options.

Any suggestions? Which is preferable here?

    thanks,
    derek

I would get an intel WiFi chipset as the drivers are more likely to be kept up to date than the Dell WiFi, as for issues I have never had any on the few notebooks I have used with Dell WiFi chipsets.

If you want 802.11n support and would rather have the Inspiron, try giving Dell a call as often the phone people don't have stupid config issues like on the website.

You can also buy the Intel N card separately for about the same price as the Dell upgrade cost (~$50).. you will have both cards that way ...

I tried calling them when I recently purchased my 1520.. They will lie to you and say the Intel card doesn't fit the Inspiron 1520. Screw then.
