I just spoke with CSR to inquire about the status of my order any if I should expect any further delays. I was told there will be no further delays and Dell has finally started shipping orders and is catching up to the back log....
08/16/2007 02:07:55PM (me): "I know many of these systems have been severely delayed, and I would like to know if my ESD is still on track for 8/23"
08/16/2007 02:08:23PM Agent: "I will look for the information."
08/16/2007 02:09:43PM Agent: ", the estimated shipping date is 08/23/2007."
08/16/2007 02:09:44PM Agent: "The estimated ship date is just a conservative ship date for the order and it is quite possible that the order ships before estimated date."
08/16/2007 02:09:47PM Agent: "As per my experience, orders usually ship much before the estimated ship date."
08/16/2007 02:11:07PM Agent: "Is there anything else apart from this that I may assist you with?"
08/16/2007 02:11:11PM (me): "Do you know if the severe delays in production and shipping are being rectified or are still a major issue?"
08/16/2007 02:11:30PM Agent: "We have started shipping the products. The only delay we are experiencing as of right now is catching up with the number of units we have to ship."
08/16/2007 02:11:49PM Agent: "As per the information, there will be no further delay in the displays or lid color production. These are the two major issues we have been facing."
08/16/2007 02:14:10PM (me): "Im glad the products are now shipping, and hope there will be no further delays, or I may be forced to cancel my order and take my business elsewhere."
08/16/2007 02:15:03PM Agent: "Thank you for understanding the situation, your system will ship on or before 8/23/2007."
I truly hope this is really the case, but I can't help but think the CSR is just blowing smoke.

I think there jobs would be on the line if they lied to a customer. Sometimes they don't know for sure about things. But I doubt that this one would lie about something like that. Dishonesty is not good business. Give Dell a break....im sure theres tens of thousands of orders in which need to ship soon. Regardless of how big they are....no other company could handle this volume. Dell is the Biggest computer manufacturer in the World to custom assemble a computer.

I think they tell you what they think you want to hear just to get you off the phone....I have been told so many times that there are no delays and that orders ship before the estimated ship date....ha..ha...I am still waiting on my 7/8 order! Plus I was told two weeks ago that they would expidite my order...yea right...I am still WAITING!

I'm not saying he was lieing to me, I'm sure as far as he's concerned there are no more delays. I just wonder exactly how well informed the CSR's actually are. I order a new system from Dell every year, and for six years this is the only issue I have ever had with Dell. Will I order from them again? Without a doubt. I just may wait a bit longer next time when ordering a system that has just been launched. -
I wasn't saying you were saying he was lieing...lol

Not to be a party pooper, but I'm always told this when I contact Dell Customer Care regarding order status. And, almost with the exact same wording.

I think some of what the CSR's tell us is just a standard reply. I once worked in marketing and when on the phone with disgruntled customers we had these comment cards to use depending on what the customer was saying. SO ya I think to some degree they do tell us certian things just to shut us up. On the other hand, I agree with ThursdayLE, and don't think they would outright lie merely to keep us appeased for the moment. As I'm sure Dell as a respected company would not condone that behavior. They do have a reputation to maintain.
I'm not happy about having to wait either, the only thing that is keeping me half-way sane is that I know I will eventually have my 1420. Hopefully, before the semester starts, but if not then....christmas? lol. -
i see in your sig you ordered a ruby red 1520...are those the same lids as the 1420s?
nevermind, cant be, screen size is different. -
I just got off an online chat session about the status of my order and I was told that the processors are on backorder.

this is what the problem is, lack of communication and concensus
Dell-ay coming to a close?
