Does anyone remember when each of the delays popped up at Dell? I think last week was when the Jet Black wouldn't delay the order anymore, but what about the other stuff like the Integrated Graphics Accelerator, NVIDIA Graphics Cards, Wireless Cards, Colored Lids, etc.

What I'm trying to figure out is when these things went on delay, and if they're popping back into availability in the stated amount of time, or if the delay is just being continued.

Edit: Well, I decided I'm going to try and track the delays mentioned on the site and see whether or not there's an impact on our orders here. BTW... this information will only cover the New Dell Inspirons! I'll try and do two updates... 1 in the morning and one in the evening. Let me know if anything changes in the interim! :D

One thing I am wondering... If they're quoting a 3 day wait one day, why doesn't it go down to 2 days the next day, or disappear by 3 days later? Are these dates solid, or are they just Dell's best guess? Basically that's what I'm trying to find out!

More updates that are starting to look really good... And if you noticed, the build time has been increased to give customers a better idea of when these things are actually going to ship...

I think it has to do with the fact that when you submit an order, it is that many days (in a perfect world!) until they get the part. It isn't how long until the delay is over for EVERYONE since new orders are coming in and adding to the problem every minute.

Dell has a rolling inventory, so they buy what they need. If the suppliers can't meet the demand, then you get delays.

In a perfect world, the person who ordered first would get their computers built before the people who just ordered. Unfortunately, Dell doesn't seem to do this so we have people waiting from June still, while people who ordered a week ago are already using their computers.

Personally, I think it's a management issue in their plants. They need to hire people or employ a system that actually keeps track of what orders came first and what orders need the parts when they come in. Finish the older orders first, don't just randomly throw the parts onto whatever system is sitting in front of the line.

Lol I wish those numbers were accurate! That would give me a delay of "only" 21 days... but I haven't lost all hope yet.

Well, the 1720 delay for the Integrated Graphics has been shortened to only 5 days and for the 1520, it looks like they came in and is no longer a delay! I guess we'll be seeing some 1520's go into production that were waiting!

It seems like dell has finally started moving out the mid-July orders. I guess they realize the problem that mid-july folks know people who order end-july and august are recieving their lappy before mid-july. I'm assuming that they are trying to get rid of all the july orders first before building most of the august.

And that's a good thing! It's just that when I ordered I avoided a lot of things that would've delayed my order, thinking they would set aside parts, and it seems like they only build once every part for your computer is in stock...

I really hope that Dell is realizing that August orders had been going out before July orders. For a while there it certainly did not seem so. Mine is still in build but I am supposed to get it 8/28. I used to think I would but not anymore. I sure hope to get it someday. My hubbie in the meantime is using is Mac that he bought 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, it's definitely nice to see the July orders start moving out. Hopefully the problems and delays will get sorted out over time. Also, it is the back to school rush, but like many people have said, you would've thought Dell would've been prepared for that.

No updates as of yet on the delays... Now for pricing, the 1720 has gone up... Anyone notice if any of the others are now more expensive?

Edit: Also, the warranty has changed for these systems. Previously, a one-year warranty was included in the price, now a two-year warranty is included in the price... Hmm...

no changes for my specific config.

you should probably do updates every wednesday when the coupons come out, or when major promotions change. (i.e., the 2gb/160hdd) when that was taken off, the base price dropped, but was still pricier.

Well, the reason I'm looking every day, Is to get a sense of how truthful they are to they customers @ order time as well... I'm checking once in the morning, and once in the afternoon/evening... that way, I can make some sense of how they actually decide what gets made and what doesn't, and if they are truthful to their estimates... Not sure what I'll do with the data... it might make a good story for the local news... they do consumer reports all the time!

My 1520 went into boxing stage yesterday and I ordered 7/26. So I think they are starting to get with the program...lets just hope at least.

ooo, okay. that takes some dedication. ^_^ well, i checked today, and the delay times for the 1520 are as follows:

    Jet Black - 0
    Alpine White - 0
    Espresso Brown - 1
    Midnight Blue - 8
    Spring Green - 11
    Ruby Red - 11
    Flamingo Pink 16
    Sunshine Yellow - 16

    There's some improvement

With respect to delay times, it is out of their control for the most part as the parts are never in stock but rather shipped in from the manufacturer.

They are then competing with other manufacturers for the same stock to include lcd components, cpus and what now...

Lead times may also change depending on your place in lne or priority to them.

Okay... sorry I didn't update this weekend. Too much going on right now! I checked the delays this weekend, and I didn't notice any changes until this morning, but I could be wrong... :) Listed on the front are the new delay times, and it looks like some of the colored lids are coming along a little quicker. Now if they could only get the stuff in for my computer... I know. That's a pipe dream. :D

Edit: Pipe Dream no longer! I'm now in boxing! Plus, there have been more updates, so check out the first page to see what's changed... (8/28/07 9:38AM)
