So after a bunch of issues - mostly in relation to my laptops screen being stuck at 59 hertz I have gotten Dell to send me a replacement/new laptop.

Dell Inspiron 1720 should be coming in 5-7 Buisness Days...

    Yea?

Oh I guess i have a question.. will it come with a Webcam now? since thats default on the 1720's now... my original didnt have one, but the dell guy said that any updated parts, or equipment that is used on the 1720 now would be on mine too.

so does that mean i get the webcam?

obviously it will have all the same specs besides that.

sooo i had to get replacement computers four times because they send you refurbished ones that are likely to have the same or worse problems. I've gone through 3 1420s and 1 1400.. finally my awesome dell representative hooked me up with an even better, brand new 1400. hopefully my laptop problems will be over forever. geez. talk about inconvenience!! i hope they send you a lappy that has NO defects!! good luck.

Well the guy said it wouldnt be refurbished... it would be new.. so it best be.
Is there anyway to really know if its refurbished though?

ME- He said something about it being a New system, that would be like the one I had now, except it may have updated parts or something if older parts are no longer manufactured or something
DELL TECH- Yes you will certainly get the same system since we are shipping this system and if any of the components are not being manufactured anymore, you will get still updated parts.
DELL TECH- I just confirmed with my manager that the system will be a new one.

there was more, but thats the important part i think.

Just a question I'm wondering... If they "replace" your laptop, do they at least put your old HDD into your replacement laptop so you don't lose any of your data?

My screen has horrible view-angle problems, and I'm pondering if I should send it in to get it repaired/replaced... But I wouldn't do that if they don't keep my original HDD intact.

nope, they don't :( They send your replacement through the mail and you are supposed to return your broken laptop within ten days of receiving the new one. If you do not return everything (all parts of the laptop) then you get charged for the new one. It sucks having to transfer all your data but theres no other way around it... Unless you physically change it yourself, but I wouldn't recommend this because what if your HDD was causing the problem? Then you're in another mess. Anyways, good luck!! Oh, and I suggest reformatting your computer before sending it to dell. I say this only because you don't want someone getting in touch with your infromation. ciao

Yes, did they give you an order number or a dispatch number? The reason I ask is because an order number means its brand new, coming right from the factory... but a dispatch number, aka a service call number, means it is refurbished. They say that the replacements are called refurbished only because they get moved from one box to another, so in a sense they are "new", but I think this is a load of cr*p because I've received so many computers that have been transferred from one box to the next and they each came F*ed up :( I let the Dell people know that I was tired of getting Sh*tty computers so the dell rep finally told me she was goign to put in an order for a brand new computer. See, I think what she said is key... "brand new." So I'm taking it that "new" and "brand new" are completely different things according to dell. Good luck!

'New' is considered new to you. 'Brand new' is something fresh off the line.

Always gotta be on your feet.. lmfao

59hz refresh rate isnt a problem, it dosnt make a differance. i dunno how you manadged to pursuade them to send a new one , what basis did you use with the 59hz... lol , its a very common thing on notebooks , not so much desktops

How is 59 Hertz common... Ive never ever seen it on a laptop before. with 59 Hertz you cant play some games either. ie. the whole BF series..

Also I didnt ask about brand new... maybe ill get back in touch with em today and ask again..

and i definatly plan on a reformat before i return it to dell.. for sure.

So i called them this morning... talked to a lady from Custome Support,
she looked up my information and informed me that it would be a brand new system.

I asked, "Ok so right off the assembly line right" and she said yes, Brand New.

So I think im getting a brand new one.
