Well my Dell.com plan failed, so i'm stuck yet again with the Canadian site as my source for Dell. I waited all week for the 1GB RAM promo to end, now this week the promo is a 100GB 4200rpm HDD and an All-In-One printer that I do not need. Does anyone know if you can purchase a system from them without any of their terrible promotions?
-
well, the best thing to do is order on the last day of a certain promotion and then if it the promotion swings in your favor for the next week then you can just call and ask to get the new promotion instead of the old. i feel your pain though, the promotions are always never quite perfect, the thing you have to realize is that in general the cost is always the same. like they'll offer a free hard drive upgrade, but it's for a crappy 4200RPM hard drive that really costs them $30 more or something, and they'll just add in the $30 cost buy not offering a rebate that they had offered the week before. I mean, don't get me wrong you can definitely get better deals some weeks than others, but in the end there's never more than a $75 price variation from what i can tell.
-
I agree that their promos don't really do much for the price, it's just a drag that they are imposed upon the consumer when most of the time people do not want them.
It's looking like i'm going to go with my local computer parts shop and pick up an Asus M6BN instead. -
You can try clicking on the notebook icon on dell.ca instead. They then offer you a $500 discounted model. It will basically save you $100 and maybe a bit more than just configuring it yourself. If you are looking at the 8600 the 80 gig drive does look tempting though.
-
It is somewhat tempting, until you realize the HDD spins at a whopping 4200rpm [
!]
Anyways, the newest Dell.ca flyer came out today in the papers, here are the E "Value" codes for the promos:
5150 - 83357 CH55FSJ
8600 - 83357 CH86FSJ
600M - 83357 CH6MFSJ
1150 - 83357 CH15PFJ
9100 - 83357 CH91FSJ
1000 - 83357 CH10FSJ
The 8600 promo actually seemed half decent, until the extra $99 for wireless G, and the $139 flat-rate shipping fee, which imho is highway robbery. -
Yeah ill agree with that since dell usually ground ships it instead of a fast service like fedex or purilator. So it probably only costs them $10 for shipping.
Basically that is the same price as if you took the other promo with the 80gb but you get the 60gb and a 1.6ghz pM instead.
Ends up being the same price.
Anyway if you stick with it you seem to be looking at the exact same spec machine as me so if you find any evalue code or deal or coupon let me know. -
Wow.I thought last weeks sale was great. I guess it is if you need 1gb of RAM. Last week when I bought the 9100 with everything I wanted for $2730 Canadian (not including taxes, but including the $10 shipping).
What would it have cost me to get it now?
$3330!!!!
The RAM price alone saved me $600 Canadian, although I do know that Dell grossly overcharges for RAM. I'm still a happy camper to get this notebook for this price. So basically I got a...
9100 P4 2.8 Ghz
15.4 WUXGA
1gb of RAM
60gb 7200 HD
128mb ATI 9700
Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps)
Total came to $3130 or so
No other notebook company offers this kind of pricing with these specs. No one that I know of anyways...

The thing is one can pick up 1GB of ram (2x512MB) for less than CDN$300 easily.
So, as I posted earlier, i'm going to look into an Asus book locally instead. I can pick it up in person, avoiding shipping fiascos, and do not have to be a slave to what Dell thinks I should bloat my system with. Of course, right after I make my purchase, i'm sure Dell will come up with the perfect promo for me... but if I sat around waiting for something better to come along all my life, i'd never get any dates []

Thanks for the tip mal! I'm currently in a live chat support with an ETC computer agent, to see if they will pricematch a m6bn barebones. The retailer here doesn't offer the Dothan chips yet, but ETC does.
Dell.ca's Promotions Suck. Again.
