I'm sure most people know already about Dell buying Alienware (now being called "Dellienware").

Anyone know whether Dell coupons/credit will start to apply to Alienware computers? It would be sweet if I could get coupons for Alienware machines. They only offer minimal discounts, if any.

Also, do you think that the use of AMD processors will finally carry over to Dell? Or will the Alienware division now go to Intel purely?

I don't see how buying Alienware would make Dell want to use AMD. They have always had the option to use AMD, and they chose Intel.

In my opinion, Intel is better anyway. If they start using AMD in all their computers, this will be my last Dell.

Alienware has way to much reliability problems. It will probably get worse. Imagine that they will fade Alienware out, just like HP faded Compaq.

i believe that they are leaving the company alone and purchased it merely as a way to obtain a larger presence in the gaming/specialty notebook market.

Possibly. But why buy a company that is known for their gaming computers, when Dell has been touting their XPS lineup? I think that Alienware will merge into Dell completely, and Dell will either dissolve it completely or start have "Alienware XPS" machines.

Brian and I actually met with three Dell representatives last week to see some upcoming stuff and just touch base. We asked about Alienware and they emphasized the deal is still not complete (it's being reviewed by courts and each party) and that there is absolutely no plans to integrate anything between either company in any way except to maybe provide some of the component channel access to Alienware that Dell has more presence in.

In other words, drumfu is right, they bought Alienware to have some extra presence in the gaming market and probably half because Michael Dell or somebody high up kinda liked Alienware. These things happen, execs have their whims and like to buy stuff now and again just to feel good.

Anyway, as a consumer you might as well pretend their seperate companies still, as they esentially are and will not be sharing employees or design staff.

Probably Dell will continue with their XPS gaming laptops/desktops because Alienware is present only in 6 countries as far as I can see.
But I'm really curious what will happen with Alienware servers.
