So is there any way for me to order a dell blu-ray drive after I have already purchased an Inspiron that is "ready" under their qualifications? I looked in their notebook upgrades drive section and no luck . . .do you think if I called I could order the drive individually?

Also does anyone actually own an inspiron with the blu-ray option and can share their experiences?

And lastly does anybody know which company manufactures the blu-ray drives for the inspirons?

    Thanks

Yeah, you can. BUT expect to pay a premium buying it thru Dell. If I was looking for a BD drive, I would probably go look on ebay....

Right now a blu ray drive for a notebook is a waste of money. Especially when BluRay Vs HDDVD battle is still going on (without a clear winner). Besides, Inspirons don’t even have HDMI or DVI outputs to digitally output hi def video.

Well I have the WUXGA screen in my 1720 so its not like there would be any wasted pixels, and I also have a nice sound system to play it through, lets just assume I'll put it to good use and want to do this . . . I cant seem to just order it through dell, there is no mention of the drive on their parts site. . .
