Same problem but on an XPS 1530. I would call tech support and have them get me a new one but since I am currently living in Mexico it would take ages to fix :(

My touchpad on my 1530 goes *haywire* on me alot!
But honestly, I was figuring it was more a *user* problem... ;)

I guess I need to look at it more closely now! ;)

I hate touchpads. I have never used one I liked. I keep a mini wired mouse for my notebook when its on my desk, and I have a mini Microsoft wireless mouse for when I am on the go.

I can't stand touchpads. That was the only good thing about my thinkpad - the nipple!. I prefer actual mice, but I've been able to get used to it.

My 1520 and 1420 that I owned for a few hours do not have a problem with the touchpad.

Obviously, after a year, my 1520's touchpad's texture shows the use.

I had the freezing touchpad after restoring my M1330 and installing SP1. It would freeze for maybe 10 or 15 seconds, then start working again. After about 10 minutes of that it froze entirely. I had to plug in a USB mouse so I could control the computer. Uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad drivers fixed it.

yeay1 its the alps touchpads. they suck. the synaptics are better. i hate it when dell cuts corners and makes the final stuff horrible.

Not sure if this helps....but for those of you having the "erratic touchpad" issue I would strongly suggest getting Dell to replace your power adapter. I have a Vostro 1500 that I bought back in Jan. of this year and the touchpad went crazy everytime I touched it. There's a long thread on Dell's site about it but the end result was a bad adapter. The one that shipped with my laptop was version A00 and it was replaced with A01. Everything works perfectly now. This seemed to work for almost all of the others who posted in that thread.

I use the touchpad mainly at home, and then when working @ my desk or out-and-about ~ I use my MS Bluetooth Wless 5000 ;) ;)

Hmmm, will have to peruse this idea!! Thanks for the advice! ;) :)

this isn't too bad for a laptop off ebay being sold as spairs and repairs due to a so called faulty screen (nothing wrong with it :S only a little mark on the gloss)

Sometimes I dont carry my bluetooth mouse with me and find myself using my touchpad for a couple hours, especially around campus. I'd say my touchpad would go erratic twice in an hour of use. It would freeze up and not work at all for about 10 seconds, or even skip on and off during that time. I turned off the option to "enhance pointer precision" under the standard mouse options and havent had the problem since. This freeze up problem occured on my Ubuntu 8.04 dual boot and my Mac OSX Leo4all (triple booted my 1400) :D So its not a problem with windows, I think the Alps touchpad doesn't work well with cursor acceleration (enhance pointer precision in XP). PM if you have any questions.

I hate touchpads in general. The one on my Dell just sucks out loud.

What's even worse is the stupid blue mouse button in the keyboard (I think it's only in the business class notebooks).

I'll be typing, accidentally touch the blue thing when typing - and it will move the mouse and click somewhere, so I end up typing in another spot on the document. Drove me crazy until I figured out how to turn it off :(
